…so if this is not permitted here, I will take a whack on the hand.
My laptop was working beautifully on the wireless network I set up. Then - it stopped. Couldn’t find the network; it appeared the router wasn’t communicating with the cable modem blah blah blah. I shut everything down, reinstalled & reset everything about a kabillion times - and still nothing
Then - suddenly, as if by magic - I have a strong wireless signal & I can see that the router is “talking” to the cable modem like it’s supposed to. I have disconnected the cable from my laptop to the modem & connected it into the router. However, when I try to disconnect the cable for the Arris hardware (the cable modem), I lose my signal & can’t go wireless.
Any suggestions?? I got sospoiled with the wireless thing - it’s so frustrating sitting here seeing that everything appears to be working, yet it’s not.
Are you in an apartment building? I’ve found that when I have network connectivity issues it’s because there are too many people sharing the same wireless channel I’m currently on. Once I go into the router config and change the channel it usually clears up.
Try fn+F2 (at least I think F2) that usually hits your wireless card on and off. When I hit mine my laptop APPEARS to be working fine, just unable to connect, if I hit it again it’ll look exactly the same except it can find networks. It is terrible at telling me something is actually off.
I’m not exactly sure how you have your network set up, but I have my modem connected to my wired/wireless router which is connected to my computer(s). Is your cable modem also a wireless router? If not, then you always need to have your cable modem connected to your router. Then you just either connect wirelessly to the router or use another ethernet cable to connect your computer and the router.
Or are you saying you don’t want your internet connection, you just want to connect to your router over a wireless connection to access the rest of your network?
