My computer was doing fine. Then my dog ate through the router cable. I bought a new router and I can not get connected. The laptops says the connection is at 100 percent. But I can not even run the PC through the router. Is there some kind of setting I should manually change for the new and better router?
I gave the router to a friend and it worked fine at his house. What could I be missing. I am using Windows XP. The router is a Linksys wrt600n. I just can not get on line with the PC or the laptops.
You probably need to configure the router to connect to the internet. The router can connect to the devices connected to it (wireless and wired), but if it’s not connected to the internet itself tehn any device connected to it won’t be either. The router shuld have instructions for set up.
Unplug the router the PC and the cable modem. Restart the cable modem, the PC, then the wireless ruoter after the other two are fully up.
it did not work. I was on my knees pulling the plug out of the wall and the cat used me for a starting block and jumped on the computer knocking every thing all over the floor. The router lights up, so it may be ok. The computer and modem work because I am back on line.
Reset the router (look for the reset pin somewhere). Then connect the Internet to the router’s WAN port, and your laptop to the router’s LAN port, and first configure the router (http://192.168.0.1 or similar, check manual or website). Run the wizard if it has a wizard mode. Make sure you turn DHCP on for the router. If you see an option for “MAC Address to use”, enter your computer’s MAC address (in case your ISP authenticates based on MAC address).
Once you finish configuration, then connect the Internet to the router’s WAN port, and your laptop to the router’s LAN port.
Make sure your computer’s TCP/IP settings are set to “Obtain IP address automatically”. If instead you are using static IP addresses, it won’t work through the router.
Is your dog a lanmower? Then he is needed in this thread:
