I think you’re wrong. Trump is the result of the 30-40% of GOP voters whose politics comes down to being anti-brown people. People who think it is a good idea to build a wall to keep out the Mexicans. People who will use any excuse to ban Muslims entering the country. People who scream about defending the 2nd amendment but stand idly by while the 4th amendment is dismantled, since it means the mass incarceration of black people.
That attitude has its roots in the spirit of Jim Crow, which itself sprang from the ashes of the ruined institution of slavery, which was racist of course but equally something elites have used for centuries as a tool to keep the common people divided amongst themselves, lest they unite and claim power for themselves at the elites’ expense.
Racism and xenophobia are in large part products, attitudes that are encouraged and cultivated in the ignorant because it is useful to someone else. Trump’s Make America White Again campaign simply uses what was already there, to smashing (GOP primary) success.
30-40% of GOP voters? Given what you describe, it seems more accurate to describe that as 30-40% of Americans, erring on the high end. And your characterization of the crime crackdown in recent decades as inconsistent with the 4th amendment is just weird. I’ve heard that criticism of GWB’s anti terror policies, but not of the crime control efforts.
I agree that more of Trump’s supporters are Republican than anything else, but there are also a lot of disaffected independents in there and former Democrats. But to say he’s just the anti-brown candidate is a crude simplification. It’s not all he’s about and not what all his supporters are there for.
It’s not wholly surprising that you don’t know what fellatio is, but given your apparent trajectory through the cultural timeline you’re bound to eventually discover some GIFs on Usenet binary groups that may bring the definition more into focus. In the meantime, let’s just say that “being civil to guests whose views you disagree with” isn’t part of it.
I actually recently saw Dobbs on Colbert going through the archives. It’s not always clear what Colbert is doing, but he seemed to be pretty down with all that Dobbs was selling, and Stewart was as well. I’m sure there were some specific, earlier criticisms of him(they criticized all media figures at one time or another, even ones they liked), but I know when Stewart is being hard on someone. He was brutal to Chris Matthews, for example. Dobbs though, quite happy with everything he said.
Stewart had showed before the bullshit mountain that Dobbs has been going for, and when inviting to the daily show Stewart asked right after how the economy was doing, (2012) Dobbs said that the economy was indeed getting better and it was at a turning point, Stewart then said: “And now how will FOX news blame that on Obama?”
That’s the Obama years. This discussion is about the Bush years. of course Democrats had no more use for dissident righties after Bush was gone. Jim Webb found that out too. And that’s one you guys can’t get out of, seeing as how he not only was elected to the Senate, but was chosen to give the response to Bush’s next SOTU. Webb politically is right in that Dobbs camp.
I hope everyone will watch that 6 minute video and judge for themselves. Does Dobbs actually get called out by Colbert for anything? I didn’t see anything. It looked like there was a small attempt at a jab but nothing more. Colbert did not challenge anything Dobbs said in any meaningful way.
Spoken like an ignorant that is not aware of the parody that Colbert was doing. It does sound also like many of the clueless Republicans that never realized it was a satiric show.
Jon Stewart’s reply to the right going apoplectic was that they wilfully ignored that those Americans already were assimilating by consuming Coke and following American values and entertainment.
FOX news reactions and from other xenophobes only told Trump who he needed to pander to.
Are you a clueless idiot? If so, I fully understand and sympathize with your condition-I have a supervisor who is also a clueless idiot, and I have learned over the years that being angry with clueless idiots is usually a waste of time. It’s best just to mock them in the presence of their betters(i.e. most everyone else in the vicinity) in such a way that they don’t realize they that are being mocked…which isn’t really hard at all-for example, see Colbert, Dobbs and you.
I’m surprised you don’t already support Trump, seeing as how you’re both unreasonably angry at the great things Obama has done to save America and you both don’t know shit.
I’m sure if Trump was in the general vs. Clinton or Sanders, you’ll be right back here saying how great Trump is.
You liberals sure do have a lot of racists in your families. And why you guys like to proudly announce to the world all about your racist relatives is beyond me.
We’re only about half-serious, so we have a convenient bolt hole to drop into if you call us on it. We learned it from Addy. Handy as hell, it is, too!
I dunno, I think calling out members of our family for being racists indicates that their views are a source of shame, and that theirs are views that we don’t share.
I wouldn’t even say that calling them out is a source of pride, any more than returning someone’s wallet is something to be proud of, it’s just the correct thing to do. It’s kind of like showing up to work on time. No one wants a cookie for it, but it still needs to be done.
