This is Mundaney McMundface, but I’m pretty thrilled . . .
I’ve been wearing reading glasses for a few years; I can’t see small print unless I hold it out about 4’ and squinch up my eyes. I went to the eye doc a few weeks ago and she wrote an RX for tri-focals, she said my mid- and long-range vision wasn’t great either.
I was skeptical, as I’ve always prided myself on my hawk-like seeing abilities.
I picked up the new glasses yesterday and OH MY GAWD! The world was suddenly in clear, crisp hi-def! My vision has been slowly deteriorating into fuzziness and it happened so gradually that I didn’t notice (frog-in-slowly-heated-water syndrome).
Did you count the leaves in the tree three blocks away? I got my first pair of glasses when I was about ten, and they warned me before I went outside how much it would affect me, even given the low prescription (I’m JUST over the border between needing vision correction to drive). Welcome to the four-eyes club - we have cookies, and you can see them!
Leaves, shrubs, traffic signs (guess I have to obey them now I can see 'em). I keep taking off my glasses to experience not-seeing-well and putting them back on to get that “wowzie” jolt. What’s really cool is driving and being seeing things in hi-def at a distance, then glancing down and being able to see my dashboard controls.
Cookies? Are those chocolate chips I see from a block away?
The only complaint I have is that they’re a bit uncomfortable on my ears. I guess I’ll have to develop ear callouses
You were also likely tailgating everyone on the road before, so thanks for stopping that.
Your optician can adjust the glasses to make the earpieces more comfortable. Just pop in during business hours and they’ll adjust them for you.
Yearly checkups are important, now maybe you’ll do that - vision can change noticeably yearly - sometimes for the better once you’re correcting your vision. Doctor says my distance vision has improved about 25% over the years. But now I need readers too.
Welcome to the world of seeing normally. Not really high definition. Just normal. Even though vision may go bad, my doc likes to point out that as long as it’s correctable it means your eyes are healthy and that’s certainly a good thing!
I try very, very hard to drive politely, as I have a certain German car that some folks delight in cutting off, making rude gestures, and following to a parking lot to key.
I think it’s the weight of the glasses that are bothering my earballs; I got all the fancy stuff like transition lenses, etc. I also have crooked ears (one higher than the other, it’s the lower ear that’s chafing a bit).Hopefully it’s just a matter of getting accustomed to the new facial decor.
They should be able to adjust all of that stuff, even the one ear higher than the other bit, wherever you got the glasses. It’s worth going in and getting it done. It’ll feel much better.
I have a co-worker who just experienced the same thing. He hadn’t been in fifteen years at least and is probably mid-30s. He says he can’t believe he thought he was seeing OK before, now that he can compare with glasses on and off.
