In Which My Cat Pisses All Over Everything

It sounds as though the serious horror began after Mina learned to jump? IOW, once Merlin had no place to get completely away from him.

There are pet doors which only open for a special RFID which can be placed on the animal’s collar.

I’m thinking one of those on the bedroom door, so that Merlin can go in and out, but Mina can’t. And Mina never allowed in that room at all.

Merlin needs a sanctuary.

Nailed it.

Mina is a direct threat to Merlin’s status.

Lemme guess: Mina got a whole bunch more attention.

It’s called “Revenge Pissing” and males have a slight lead in the subject.

I took home a 6 wk old kitten. I lived alone and had to work for a living. This time, it was cross-country.
Jessie did not like it. I ended up replacing the entire carpet (after remodel).

I’m willing to try this, but it’s not much different than when I allowed Merlin, and only Merlin, in and out of my bedroom, is it? He had a huge space, with his own food and litter box, but the problems in the living room persisted.

Sr. Weasel won’t agree to us ‘‘destroying our door.’’ He also seems to think I’m incapable of doing it properly, but that’s really because he doesn’t understand this handyman stuff.

I think some of this may have been exacerbated when I stopped letting Merlin into the bedroom every instant he wanted in, because then two minutes later he would be crying to be let out. Husband suggested I always let Merlin into the bedroom when he wants in, but that I don’t have to rush to let him out, so that he understands if he goes in there, he’s going to have to stay a while.

This will make my allergies worse but I’m not sure what is the alternative. Still looking into re-homing Mina, though I don’t want to.

I think there’s something to the earlier suggestion about temporarily placing Mina elsewhere just to see how Merlin reacts. As much as I tend to dislike boarding cats, that wouldn’t be a terrible solution for a week or so if you don’t have anyone else who could keep him for a few days.

At least then you’d feel more confident about whether you needed to find a new permanent home for Mina.
