You mispelled morans. 4 times I might add.
He said that Republicans wouldn’t care about him even if he were literally on fire. Now, I don’t propose we actually do an experiment in which we set DT on fire near a bunch of Republicans and see what they do, but my guess, and I’m just spitballing here, is that they won’t say, “Hey, son, mind telling us what your political leanings are?” before they go and throw some freaking water on him to put him out. Because Republicans, like the rest of us, are human beings, and will not stand idly by watching another human being burn to death.
Now, if you have some evidence showing that Fox News hosts like to set Democrats on fire and laugh while their flesh burns, I’d love to see it.
I literally just posted evidence to the contrary showing that a Fox News host doesn’t care if poor people fry to death. Most human beings can understand that things like an air conditioner, a refrigerator, or a phone can be necessities to live. People who lack sympathy for others can’t.
I guess what DT said wasn’t true, because maybe he’s not poor.
I think if DT is unduly harsh anywhere, its that he doesn’t often distinguish between the handful of moderate and good Republicans with the ones who are batshit crazy and evil
Republicans the likes of those he describes do exist, and they deserve every bit of bile and vitriol their insane beliefs reap. And those who may not agree with them but support them with fallacious arguments or a naive belief that “both sides are bad”, enabling the crazies to harm people also deserve hate
Taking a page out of their book, if the moderates don’t feel the extremists represent them, then do something about it. Take back their party, vote them out, drown out their hatred with reason. But even still, 47% of people backed Romney, the Republicans, and all that they represent. No matter if they were raping women or taking rights away from gays, these people, Tea Bagger supporters or not, voted with them, and voted in lots of Republicans who are now actively trying to hurt people (and have succeeded). To those people, I owe them nothing. They are pretty much as bad as the extremists.
My opinion of these “good” Republicans will not change until they take back their party and the next Democrat wins something like 70% of the votes for president. That’s when I know these Republicans have decided to speak up. Since that will not happen, they deserve to be hated for everything the GOP is doing. They deserve the blame when millions lose their jobs because the GOP blocked a jobs bill. They deserve the blame for every hungry mouth which could have been fed with food stamps that the GOP defunded. They deserve the blame for every death that could have been prevented by health care, every life that could have been saved by more regulations, and every dollar lost because the GOP dicked around with the economy.
If they feel unjustly maligned by that, too fucking bad. Take back your party from the likes of Ted Cruz and Michele Bachmann
edit: this is a reply to Karrius.
That is literally not what your evidence shows.
Look, I get that Fox News is a network run by dicks and for dicks, and that not wanting to supply AC to poor people is a dick move and that lots of Republicans support dickery like this. I do. But calling them “evil” is stupid. Saying that they would not care if you were literally on flames in front of them is stupid. It’s stupid, and it’s easy to dismiss, and it makes you look like you have the debating capacity of a second-grader. Would you listen to someone who said that all Democrats were baby-killers who want to destroy America by giving all of its wealth to the greedy poor? No; you would rightly dismiss this as the insane ranting of a crazy asshole and move on. Entirely too much of what Der Trihs posts around here is of similar quality.
Looks like I got my argument anyway. Hooray!
[monty python] No you didn’t. [/monty python]
No, you literally didn’t. Careful, you may have been standing a bit too close to Der Trihs and come down with a case of contagious hyperbole.
Promoting class resentment and prejudice and not clearly distinguishing between extravagant luxuries and necessary basic appliances are indeed stupid and sucky and mean things to do. But they are not literally the same as being indifferent to the catastrophe of somebody being literally burned alive.
[ETA: As MsWhatsit said.]
MsWhatsit, I once had to put up with some republicans who were literally arguing that it didn’t matter if Buddhist statues were destroyed by the Taliban because they’re non-Christians anyway, and so it’s good if those people wipe each other out.
Excuse me if I do not extend republicans the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how sympathetic they are towards non-Christians. My experiences highly suggest doing so is unnecessary.
Excuse me if I think the people who literally want to rape others before those people can receive medical care are evil.
It depends on your definition of evil. My definition encompasses those who gleefully wish, or cause, or promote, or legislate harm on others, not because of anything the target of their ire has done, but simply because they exist. Yep, evil epitomized.
That broke the jaded funk. Thank you.
Bolding mine. This is my problem. Some Republicans expressed a reprehensible opinion. Therefore all Republicans are evil/crazy/want to rape people/etc. Spewing hyperbole towards a rather large group of people who, believe it or not, frequently express ideas that are not crazy, do not involve wanting to burn people alive or rape them, and are worth consideration, is not helpful. This is all I’m saying.
Edit: I am feeling really cranky that you people are making me actually defend Republicans today. Come ON.
Significant amounts of republican politicians, elected members, do amazingly reprehensible things.
Others continue to support those people with party identification, donations, votes, and so on, and then act surprised, shocked, and offended that they are painted with the same brush painting the same people they elected to office.
Republicans claim to be the party of personal responsibility. Fine. If they want to be the party of personal responsibility, they should try taking responsibility for what the people they elect to office do.
“Only SOME of our elected politicians are rapists” is not a very stunning endorsement. What politicians within the republican party are even worth supporting? Their last presidential candidates were all total scum. Who the fuck are the “good republicans” voting for?
It’s amazing that multiple people are lining up to support him. I guess the ends justify the means.
I think Liberals are wrong on many issues and that’s why I don’t vote for them. But to take it to such a level to think that they are evil and actively trying to hurt people would just be silly.
Ugh. I give up. Are you aware that it is possible to disagree with someone and even to win a debate without resorting to this kind of hyperbole? I mean, sometimes people do things that are disagreeable, unpleasant, or just plain wrong, without actually literally being rapists or killers, so resorting to this kind of language every time you talk about them, even when they have not actually raped or killed anyone, and even if you think that some of their proposed policies might lead to rape or murder, is not appropriate.
To sum up: I think we should reserve terms like “rapist” and “murderer” for people who have actually personally done these things; I think that hyperbole gets us nowhere; I think there are at least a few Republicans out there who would probably at least piss on your ass if it were on fire; and I’m still probably not going to vote for any of them.
Good day sir.
ETA: Nevermind. It’s not worth it.
Hold up.
Republican lawmakers in several states try to make it so that in order to receive abortions, no matter what the reason, the patient needs to be vaginally penetrated for no valid medical reason, and lied to by their doctor. This is described as ‘invasive’ and ‘humiliating’ by some who have suffered through it.
Do you think that this is not rape? Because to me if a woman is telling me that they had something shoved into their privates against their will while being lied to, and it was an invasive and humiliating experience, that sounds like rape to me!
Sure, the republicans are only ORDERING that, but, you know, by the “directly doing” definition Manson wasn’t really that big of a murderer…
When we’re talking about evil Republicans, who, specifically, are we referring to? Are you saying all people who vote Republican are evil? Registered Republicans? Congress?
Because, no. If there’s one thing I’ve learned talking to decent, rational Republicans, it’s that they truly believe their views are what’s best for society. Evil implies intentional harm, and whatever harm a Republican policy might cause, it’s probably not intentional in the vast majority of cases. There are plenty of Republicans who have compassion for those less fortunate than they are - they just don’t think government is the best solution for helping those people.
That said, they have to take responsibility for their own dumb party. If you voted for an extremist you are part of the problem, so you better buck the fuck up and get to work undoing all of this damage.
I don’t much care for how DT says a lot of things but like others here I basically agree with him.
The right in this country is mainly a self-cleaning oven of hate.
Hate never wins.
Hey, Jon Huntsman isn’t total scum (and thus had to withdraw in January).
