30 feet square? That’d be a nice little shop, even though it is a bit small for my purposes (a '57 Fairlane is 20 feet long, that leaves 5 ft at each end…) A lift, line one wall with storage spaces…yeah, it’d work.
Ooh. 30x30…
- Jacuzzi, with tile and drain around it. Good view, if possible.
- Massive HDTV system, full surround sound, DVD/CD/VCR, MegaWattage, as many speakers as I can manage (Polk audio makes a system for home theaters like this, can’t find the link, but it costs $25k and pushes 120 SPL. Includes 2 12" subwoofers.)
- Computer System. Dual 24" monitors, orthopedic chair, Multipile CPU’s, Exabyte drive system, anything else that catches my fancy, with a T1.
- Decent Lighting System. Fiber Optic, High Output Halogen, anything but plain light bulbs or Neon lamps.
- Bookshelves, Cabnets, closets.
- Wet Bar w/Microwave and fridge.
- Bathroom.
This is just off the top of my head, and assumes unlimited funds. If I can’t have unlitmited funds, I’ll only be able to afford carpet.
It would be a big greenhouse. Three walls of glass, one wall of shelving to hold the gardening books. Ceiling fans, solar heat and skylights. Couple wicker chairs (and a wicker end table for my drink!) and a potting bench in the corner, complete with closet full of gardening supplies. (The stuff you can’t keep outside.)
I’m set!
First off I want the 1.5 - 2 story celings that Anthracite suggested along with the rolling ladder to access them. The room would be done in earth tones and Hardwood. It would consist of the most advanced technology I could get my hands on. Everything in the room would be controled by a remote the size of a Palm Pilot. There would be skylights all around the roof and it would have a solid glass celing. I would have a system put in that would point out the stars and constilations on the glass celing from the perspective of a determined observer from anypoint in the room and would follow that observer as he or she moved about the room. To that effect the Room would have several chairs in it that would be comfortable to sit in while looking up at the sky. The floor would be finished in an antique-looking hardwood covered with several large oriental rugs. Each of the walls would be solid book cases from floor to celing covered with rare first editions and collectables. In the center of the east wall would be a ten foot wide section that would come straight out of the wall and split directly down the center and then move to the left and right in front of the other bookcases to expose the entertainment system including the ten foot HDTV, DVD player, Music center, and stereo controls. For entertainment purposes I will have a full compliment of Video game systems and games that are connected to the HDTV. For the room’s sound I will have Bose come in and build speakers into the bookcases and floors so that they cannot be seen: a full Dolby 7.1 surround system comprised of a mixture of 901’s, gelcubes and Bose’s subwofers. In front of the entertainment center would be two very large and squishy highbacked leather couches. For the west wall another section of bookcase will open up but in smaller scale to the entertainment system. It will only open up to be a 4 foot wide x 3 feet deep x 6 foot tall opening. It will be the bar. Facing the west wall, on the left side of the bar will be a sitting area with very comfortable reading chairs and reading stands. Scattered throughout the room would be a lively mixture of plants.
oh yes, and something unrealistic like an air conditioning/heating system that would adjust to my mood.
Soundproof it, so no one can hear my pathetic drum-playing.
Set up an easel for small canvases, rolling cart with art supplies. Good ventilation (turpentine - yuck). Large empty floor area for those big canvases I plan to work on. Everything I need for my soap-making. Nothing too fancy cuz
the paint’s gonna be a-flying everywhere. Lots of sunlight and a reliable person to come in and clean every night. I am building a small Buddhist shrine, suppose it could go in there as well. And then to finish it off with flair, a small self-contained Krispy Kreme store.
