In Zinzinnati steht ein Hofbräuhaus

In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus:
Eins, zwei, g’suffa . . .
Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus:
Eins, zwei, g’suffa . . .
Da hat so manche braver Mann:
Eins, zwei, g’suffa . . .

So, I saw a flyer posted on the community bulletin board at the local Kroger’s the other day. I’m not (yet) looking for a night job, but grabbed one of the tabs since I love German bier and even good German food, hard as that is to find. The name of the place: Hofbräuhaus Newport.

Now there is a lot of German “heritage” in Cincinnati, and they supposedly have the biggest Oktoberfest outside of Munich, but I just assumed that when they said “Hofbräuhaus”, it was just someone looking to capitalise on the famous Bavarian institution in Munich. Still, the flyer talked about them crafting real German beer and even bringing in a German master chef. So I was enthusiastic. Today I finally got around to searching for a website based on the e-mail address from the flyer. Lo and behold, I found the following blurb in an old Cincinnati Enquirer article (from May of last year):

OK, so technically this is in Newport, which is just across the river from Cincinnati in Kentucky. But it’s still in the neighborhood, so to speak. And now that I know that this is the genuine article, and that they are looking to hire staff, I’m kind of geeked about the whole thing. Real German beer! Here! On draught! Wow!

Now I know where the next Cincinnati Dopefest will likely be. And it won’t be in Cincinnati.

Mmmm. You know you’re in for good beer when there’s an HB on your glass. I had the pleasure of dining in HB Munich. The brats were spectacular, and the beer moreso.

That sounds fun, ShibbOleth!

Just hope that no-one starts a campaign to boycott German produce!

And I am sure you will be much nicer than the rude Kellner I encountered in HB in Munich.

Prosit!!!, ShibbOleth.

Would you do me a favor and run a clandestine pipeline from Hofbräuhaus to Chicago? Pleassssseeee?

Say more things in German Shibb…

slowly…

and while dressed in leather…

durch die mauern, hör ich lieder
wie aus anderer welt
am himmel erscheint ein kreuz
wenn ich wüsste, was mich hier noch hält
in tiefer schmerzenswut
vom leben weggespült
den berg der seligkeit
hab ich jemals bei dir nur gefühlt
und ich lauf…
zu dir rauf*

Yeah, Cincinnati was supposed to get that place, but the city council felt it wasn’t the type of place they wanted. So, Newport, looking to expand on the options at the Levee, signed right up. Can’t wait til it opens. And there’s enough German heritage in Covington, Newport, and Bellevue to make it authentic.

diku, let us know if you come up to visit. Any excuse to drink good Pils or Lager.

Will do. I’m trying to get up there for May Fest in Covington, don’t know if I’m going to make it. I really miss all the different summer food festivals up there.

Now I’m in Nashville, where they’ve decided to start charging for our weekly summer music concerts. Which used to be in a public park, and free. Oh well.

Sorry for the hijack.

Ya! Das ist mine schnitzelbank.
