Incense

Today I opened a pack of incense and burned 2 sticks of it. They were the same kind, shape, and smell. After one had burned down to the bottom, the other still had half a stick left. Any reason why this would happen?

Probably just batch to batch variation, a little finer charcoal in one, a bit more moisture in the other. Making incense sticks by hand isn’t exactly rocket science, so some variation is to be expected.

Cheap incense…
I use Shoyeido @ about 10 cents a stick.

Mmmmm Nag Champa!! I am so excited I don’t have to live in the dorms come August, because dorms don’t allow incense (which makes 100% sense, but still sucks).

I am sort of new with the whole incense thing. What are the normal range of prices, cheap prices, and expensive prices of it?

Depending on the location where they were burning, drafts of air can affect the burn rate. The one that burned all the way down may have had a stronger draft crossing it than the other one did.

I generally find that one stick at a time is plenty in an average-sized room, though. I doubt that serious studies have been done, but incense=smoke, and breathing-in-smoke=lung disease. Incense may not cause cancer like cigarettes do, but I seriously doubt that it’s healthy to hang out in a smoke-filled room with any kind of smoke.

Yeah, I realize that hanging in a smoke filled room is not good. You are probably right that there was a different draft or air flow type of thing. They were in two different rooms(one for me, one for my bud in the next room over).

Hmm, burning incense, eh?

I see you don’t take your username frivolously.

Nope, it was carefully thought out before I started using it everywhere. This way I can pop in on threads like this and get an easy laugh.
