Inconsiderate fucking drivers.

Yep. Here in Colorado, they are called ‘gappers’. Have to take solace in the fact that the area I live is supported by their tourist dollars.

I live on the coast of Maine; tourist traffic slows the whole region down every year from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I get that they want to see the sights, but sheesh, if you don’t want to go somewhat close to the speed limit on a clear day, then pull off the road and let folks by. It’s not “Vacationland” for those of us who live here. Some of us have shit we’d like to get done before the undertaker plants us in the ground, and taking 45 minutes for a 20 minute drive isn’t one of them!

I kinda have the opposite problem. I drive the speed limit. I stay in the right lane unless there is someone going slower than I am, in which case I pass and move back over.

I’ve had drivers come roaring up behind and flash their lights for me to get out of their way…in the right lane! They don’t want to take the effort to merge left, I suppose. Or else they are just assholes.

Oh, I agree. But, there is also an opposite problem driving on icy mountain roads - The tourists go too fast. Got to get to the ski area… Safety be dammed.

Rental car, dangerous roads and off in the ditch they go. The highway guard rails take an absolute beating up here.

I’ve been driving over the continental divide for 24 years. I know how long it’s going to take me to get where I’m going and plan appropriately. More often than not, I’m the 24 year local that will pull over to prevent these idiots from tail gaiting me.

I’m unclear - are you saying you expect them to pass you on the right?

No. I expect them to pass me legally, but what’s amazing is that despite their desire to speed even more than I’m already doing, they don’t take that opportunity the first chance they get. They’d rather me pull over to let them pass uninterrupted, and tailgate me when they should be going around instead if I haven’t. It’s bizarre.

Like I said, if I want to go faster than someone who is already going too fast ;), then I assume the onus is on me to get my ass around as quickly as possible, so I do. And unfortunately, that often means I have to speed just a hair more, for a few seconds, until I’m able to get back into the proper lane. These yahoos, though? One tailgated me so long (in a no passing zone when we were both already over the limit and I had no place to get on to the shoulder), that I wanted to make certain they had no problems passing at their first chance. So, in a 60 MPH zone, I slowed (and slowed and slowed) until I was probably doing close to 40, and the idiot still wouldn’t pass. With not a car in sight for miles, on a straight away, legally.

I’m telling you, those kind of drivers around here are the bane of everyone’s existence. For that last mentioned jack hole, I almost had to completely stop the damn car before they’d go around. But tailgating is A-ok. Idiots.

Is there a law against honking?
