So I’m on a diet. I’m not sure of the clinical definition of fasting, but let’s say I’m drinking a shake for breakfast (7:30-8:00 am), another for lunch (noon-1pm), and eating a sensible dinner (around 6pm).
Why is it that around this time of day (a couple hours before dinner, a few hours since lunch) my saliva production goes into high gear? Is it because I’m using my body fat as fuel and saliva is produced somehow? Or is it just some response to hunger where my body expects to need that saliva for digestion as it normally gets the food it’s demanding? Is it just my perception?
I suppose the single factual question here is this: Why is my saliva production dramatically increased without eating any solid food (or weight-loss shakes)?
