Indigenous People & Black History Month

Are there black or black-skinned people who are not historically indigenous to Africa? My high schoolers are questioning the use of the terms Black History Month and African American History Month, since, if someone’s ancestors cannot be traced to Africa, then the term African American History Month would exclude them. Thanks for your wisdom, Mrs. K.

Well, there are the dark-skinned Austrailian Aboriginals, however I don’t think too many of them reside in the US.

Woof!!!

Get ready!!!

I’ve gone over this 'til I’m blue in the face. I’ll back off and watch on this one.

Andeman islanders come to mind, but lets not forget that whole melanesia thing as opposed to polynesia.
