Dork.
The great joy of ignorant, unsubstainiated opinions. Let’s all have more of that.
Does it make you feel any better that we got the shortest month of the year?
Kreskin predicts long and interesting thread!
Black History is American History, my dear.
To be fair, so are a lot of things that don’t get their own month.
Would somebody be so kind as to explain what exactly happens during this Month for the non-Americans like myself.
Is it just a time when you’d be more likely to see some decent docu’s about MLK et al and kids get assigned work on black history etc.
Seen as how there seems to be quite a bit of racial tension still in the US I don’t really see what the problem with such a movement myself but YMMV
What does Black History Month have to do with the vicious “Yo Dawg/Hey Guys” divider?
Did Booker T. Washington say “Yo Dawg”?
Haha hahaha, we got something you don’t got! We got something you don’t got!
Soon America will be OURS and you whities will be down to one channel, calling each other “cracker” for fun and white only scholarships. Oh wait! We already got the white only scholarships----- we are THAT MUCH CLOSER TO VICTORY!
[QUOTE=Sinful…i refuse to respect you or anyone who mentions it approvingly in my presence.[/QUOTE]
So…anybody who holds a different opinion about something than you doesn’t deserve your respect? Way to win friends and influence people ya got there dawg. (Can I say “dawg”…I’m white…I would hate to mess your your preconceived idea of how I should speak…)
History is history…be it black, white, chinese, native american, jewish, etc.
How do people celebrating their history and culture bother you in any shape or fashion?
You basically have it right. Unfortunately, some get carried away and try to exploit it for commercial advantage, and that’s just sad.
IMO, months devoted to the histories of particular groups, especially under-represented groups like blacks, women (March is Women’s History Month), and Hispanics (they’ve got October) aren’t bad ideas. It’s interesting to reflect on contributions by these groups, especially since they aren’t often taught in American history classes.

Well, yojimbo, it’s like this. Colgate airs its commercials with black people in it (during primetime on NBC, no less!). The black people are brushing their teeth just like their white counterparts except the black people say things like “this toothpaste is phat” and “yo! did you try that new colgate toothpaste?” Showtime airs a black movie (a black movie is just like a white movie except the characters say things like “nigga, please!”), Comedy Central has a Black Stars night with performances by black comics (black comics are like white comics except they say things like “black people don’t ski” and “did you hear about those crazy white people - they tried to pet a bear!”) and BET, well, it just does the same old thing.
And because of this, we say “fuck it in your big black ass?” There IS a Hispanic Heritage Month or Week I believe ( I can’t remember when it is, Chicago celebrates it heavily) and as for White Heritage, you can’t honestly tell me we never celebrate the accomplishments of white folk.
Which one is this, I’ve lost count of the number of "What’s the matter with us Black Folk threads?
Here’s a quick solution to your problem. Look at your TV remote, see those up/down arrows? Those allow you to change the channels when whatever offends you pops up on the screen. Alternately there’s another button called Power, this enables you to turn off the TV. Wow, look no more McDonalds commercials to bother teaching you a little history. Seems so simple.
Tell me Sinful, just how many people have come up to you and wished you a Happly Black history month? Are people actually stopping you in the streets exhorting the value of Black History Month? Did you get any cards? Really? I mean sheesh, isn’t there anything else more important in you life then this non-issue.
Oh yeah, whazzup my niggas!!!
Am I the only one here who appreciates what the Pit is for? Sheesh, if the OP wanted an intellectual debate, he would’ve gond to GD. What’s wrong with letting off steam in an emotional way about something that is easy to take pot shots at, like BHM?
I remember back in the late 60s when the local news used to devote the last 5 minutes to “Black News”. This is the same friggin’ thing. How long before it gets changed to African-American History Month?
But hang on, if a country needs something called a ‘Black History Month’ isn’t that implicitly saying there are some serious fundamental problems here and that the tokenism this Month represents is actually distracting from addressing those real basic problems ?
It’s like ‘Okay, we’ll do this Month thing, we’ll all hold hands and then the huge percentage of young blacks in prison doesn’t matter so much’.
Or maybe I’m just your hic Old Europe dude trying to hang with the righteous.
Dream on, sistah. Ya’ll get February and we get the rest!
For my part it’s ADDRESSING a serious fundamental problem which is, growing up I wasn’t TAUGHT all that the African Americans did for our country. Sure, I learned about George Washington Carver, and the Underground Railroad and all that, but what about the invention of the microphone? The diaphragm inside the microphone? How about a black man originally inventing the filament that goes inside a lightbulb.
There are still people in this country who believe black people are nothing but worthless gang members. And now we’re saying “fuck you in your big black ass” for people trying to prove that wrong? Give me a break.
John Mace, sure,Sinful can come in here and bitch about the horrors of learning about black history…but if dissenting opinions were unwanted, she came to the wrong place.
The local Barnes and Noble had a table with a sign that said “African American History Month”. I thought it was funny because everyone knows blacks can’t read.
MY GOD! HOW LONG UNTIL WE ARE ALL FORCED TO BE BLACK PEOPLE???
