This thread reminded me that, while I was an avid fan of Futurama, I somehow managed to miss a few episodes when they first appeared on television. I didn’t see the second Robot Santa episode or the “Tales of Interest” that had the story about Bender becoming human, either when they first aired or on any of the reruns.
So it was with special pleasure that I got to see both of those episodes when I got the DVDs. They were, to me, like DVD extras!
Similarly, I’d already seen every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer by the time I got the DVDs…except for one, the episode “Ted,” about Joyce Summers’s too-perfect boyfriend. Great episode!
And someday when I watch the DVDs of Star Trek: TOS, I will finally, after all these years and decades of syndication, see the episodes “Catspaw” and “For the World Is Hollow, and I Have Touched the Sky.”
It no longer bothers me when I miss an episode here or there of The Simpsons, because now I just think of missed episodes as nice surprises for the DVD I know I’m going to buy someday.
Of course, I hadn’t seen any episodes of Veronica Mars until I got Season One on DVD, but that’s a different category from this thread.
What are some individual episodes of your favorite shows that you never caught until you got the DVD?
