How high off the floor is the lowest point of the roof (indoor) of an indoor baseball stadium?. How much height/distance is allowed beyond what is thought to be the highest a ball will be hit?
I don’t know. It varies. I don’t think there’s a rule. Sometimes a ball hits the rafters in Tampa Bay. In the old Kingdome the ball would sometimes hit a speaker hanging from the roof in fair territory
And, balls occasionally hit the roof (and even got lost in the roof) in the old Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The lowest roof at a MLB ballpark currently belongs to the Diamondbacks’ Chase Field, which ranges between 180’ and 200’.
The peak of the roof at the old Houston Astrodome was a little over 200’ (sources vary). Any ball hitting the dome, the superstructure, or the speakers was considered in play. The Metrodome in Minneapolis was a mere 186’. The Kingdome in Seattle was a stately 250’. Despite the Kingdome’s height,it was the scene of two bizarre plays - a sure home run for Willie Horton that hit a speaker and fell more or less straight down for a single; and fly balls hit by Bob Watson in two consecutive games that hit the speakers. One dropped for a double, the other for a triple.
