Speaking of, isn’t the idea meant to be that she hatched the plan to recruit Banner? You know, sending in that kid with the sob story about an ailing parent — and then explaining that SHIELD has been keeping other parties off the big guy’s scent, adding that a global threat now calls for a gamma-radiation expert? (And figure she gets half a point for her ‘disguised infiltrator’ work in WINTER SOLDIER?)
I’m considering it. I’ve liked most Marvel movies up till now (except Dr Strange was not that great) so it was disappointing not to like this one. I really like Iron Man though, so if the next film is his last one, I’ll probably watch. Hopefully it’s amazing. Getting rid of half the cast will probably help, actually.
What was the deal with Romanoff when Banner appeared? There had been a potential relationship there and as we saw in the recent Thor movie, Banner is still interested. But when he appeared, Romanoff held back and Wilson said something like “This is awkward.”
I’m assuming this means Romanoff moved on after Banner’s disappearance and she’s seeing someone else (Wilson? Rogers?). But was that ever cleared up in the movie? Was it something that’s been mentioned in Civil War or some other previous movie?
He left her two years ago. That’s a long time to carry a torch.
This. He basically took off in a stolen jet and abandoned her for multiple years. That’s a tough one to come back from with a “Hey, Nat!”
Well, being turned into a green rage monster for most of the time and having accidentally plunged through an interstellar portal might be mitigating circumstances, though…
Remember that it’s been about 3 days for Bruce. He was the Hulk from the time Natasha pushed him off the ledge in Age of Ultron until Thor found him in Thor Ragnarok, and he didn’t know how much time had passed.
They are both adults arent they? I don’t get why any age gap between two adults would be “creepy”- do you find it creepy when one is black and the other white?
Well, she did make out with him for a bit, then said “But I really need the other guy” and pushed him off a ledge. So she’s not exactly blameless either.
If you want think about creepy, Vision was created only a couple of years ago. As he said in Age of Ultron, he was literally “born yesterday”.
Yeah, that Bruce/Natasha relationship is gonna need some counseling. Pity that, apparently, the Avengers use Bruce as their therapist.
Then again, they’re all sort of nuts. Not Batman-level nuts but pretty out there.
I mean, that is like literally the reason he left. In Thor Ragnarok Hulk had fans, he had FRIENDS. Not Banner, Hulk. People wore Hulk masks on the street. Compare that to the way the people in that city he wrecked in Age of Ultron looked at him. It’s no surprise he didn’t want to go back and hates Banner. Banner only brought him out to get punched in the face.
You know, I rewatched Infinity War this weekend and this brought up a big plot hole. When Banner gets to Earth, he tells Tony all about Thanos and his plan. But he was Hulk that entire time, so how did he know?
Anyway, I think I liked it even more the second time around. My initial reaction to all the deaths was just shock. Now knowing what was coming it was a lot more emotional (especially Vision’s “I only feel you” line which I didn’t realize was a callback to what Wanda said).
I don’t know if I’d call that big plot hole, but it does require some fanwanking. We don’t know how long it was between the ship leaving Asgard and Thanos attacking it. Long enough for Thor & Loki to have another conversation at least. It’s possible Banner de-Hulked during that time, and was Banner during the initial attack. And maybe Thanos monologued a bit before the action picked up in Infinity War.
Just saw this interesting video. It shows how long all of the characters were on screen.
Avengers Infinity War Characters Screen Time
I was surprised to see how briefly some of them were on camera.
Interesting, thanks. I’m mainly surprised by how long (in relative terms) Scarlet Witch and Vision were on compared to others.
Loki: It was dumb (Loki’s not dumb) to attack Thanos with a letter opener with the Power and Space Stones in the gauntlet (and his four Lieutenants standing by) after watching him conquer Thor and Hulk with just the Power Stone. That had to be some kind of gambit, the reason for which will be revealed (hopefully) in part 2.
Shuri: When Corvus broke into the room where she was removing Vision’s Mind Stone, she did some things to the device used to remove the Stone and then shut it down. I wonder if she did something to the Mind Stone that will be crucial to defeating Thanos. Why do anything or shut it down? If it was just a device to remove the Stone, there would be no need to do anything whether they got Vision or were foiled. The only other reason I can divine is maybe she just wanted to disconnect the device from the Stone lest it cause damage if Vision were yanked off the table, but shutting it down would still be unnecessary. I like to think she did something manipulative to the Mind Stone that will be important later, and shut it down to hide it.
I hope the producers establish at the beginning of Part 2 the effect of the finger snap on the whole universe: Family members missing, universal chaos, societal collapse. I want the task of reversing everything to mean more than just rescuing a few super heroes.
Shuri was trying to remove the stone without damaging the Vision’s mind. Her attempts to do this were not completed when Corvus attacked, so she shut down the machine so Vision could flee or defend himself or destroy the stone despite the damage it would do to him, whichever of those options would prove necessary. It’s possible she pulled something sneaky, but I don’t think there’s any reason to suspect this.
Wouldn’t it have been great for Loki to have swapped in as Bruce Banner? Suddenly the whole Can’t-Turn-Into-The-Hulk bit would go from “subplot” to “truth” — and the dumb look he gives, when he gets asked about not reprogramming the Vision, would go from “impressed scientist realizes his error” to “unprepared for this chat”. Oh, hey, Natasha! Well, um, hi! And now we are done talking!
(I forget where I first heard that one.)
