As well as science and history communicators on YouTube.
Really, they’re all content creators, and assuming that the only content of interest a woman can create is porn says a LOT more about the person making the assumption than anything else.
I’m not sure what term could be used instead anyway. Typically an independent content creator is performing all of the production roles, as well as being the presenter - not necessarily to the same level of competence and quality of the individual broadcast media roles of scriptwriter, lighting technician, camera operator, editor, producer etc, but quality isn’t the point. They’re doing something that is an amalgam of many different traditional job titles, so it needs a job title of its own.
I remember hearing a pair of musicians interviewed on All Things Considered back in circa 2010. They made a living almost entirely from making YouTube videos, which still seemed novel at the time. Like that article says, from what I understand YouTube doesn’t pay nearly as well as they used to; now you’ve got to have sponsorships, Patreon supporters, etc., in order to actually make any real money.
Dog groomers aren’t above whoring themselves out yanno! Like when I see James, who singlehand sails his boat all around the world, thanking his patrons while wearing his form fitting bvd’s I want to give him a tip sometimes
It’s gott get stressful always coming up with new content. And there’s a shit ton of channels out there.
I’m pretty sure this dog groomer doesn’t do porn, not that there’s anything wrong with it or sex work. She does Youtube so she can support herself while doing free grooms for mostly severely matted dogs and their owners who need help. She’s pretty cool.
See, I was sure you meant Girl with the Dogs, because…well…that’s the successful YouTube pet groomer I’ve heard of . Shouldn’t be shocking that there is more than one doing okay, but there you go - the YouTube platform contains multitudes in duplicate.
This. I read the letter and thought, “here’s someone who went into hiding during covid and never came out again”. Also, she’s not making a lot of money or she’d probably be helping with the rent. But i think the biggest issue here is not that she’s a freeloader but that she might have been emotionally crippled by the pandemic.
“Better” in the sense of “less likely to shock people who object to the existence of sex work”, I suppose you mean. Yeah, it’s just as well to have a more innocuous and less attention-getting name for employment you want to be discreet about, like CIA agents being called “civil servants”.
I would suspect something slightly different. It’s easy to put out videos, so she has probably done so at least somewhat. But I would suspect she makes little to no money from doing so–though she hopes she could make money.
That said, if she buys her own groceries, she might make some money from it. But not enough to pay rent.
It’s weird that people think that. Crumpets are like a thick, porous pancake with a somewhat rubbery chewy texture - they do have a porous nature that is visually similar to the inside of an American English muffin that has been split, but I think they’re not that similar.
I’m glad to see an actual brit say that. A friend just made crumpets, and posted about it online. And it looked like a fat pancake with holes. And he said that the recipe instructed you to let them sit overnight to develop the rubbery texture of store bought ones.
It did look similar to the inside of an English muffin, but the thing, as a thing, looked pretty different.
(But i was afraid to say that, not having ever actually eaten one.)
