I just found this last night. It’s about the simplest mod you can do. It took me all of 10 minutes. All you need is a webcam that’s easy to take apart, and color film negatives. So anybody who has the time and tools, do it and take pictures!
My hand. You can see the veins with IR.
My monitor. It’s turned on, and has something showing on it. But it emits no IR.
My face illuminated by a remote control.
I did this about a month ago. My old crappy cam was especially easy to mod. Fun for a few hours. Interesting to note things like my black t-shirt is light colored in IR.
Cool. Most digicams have the built in filter but I still have a Minolta Dimage 7 which is one of the few that doesn’t. I’ll have to get an IR filter, one that passes ir and blocks most visible light, and experiment with it.
Or you can use a fully exposed film negative.
Black PVC electrical tape is suprisingly effective. I found this out when I tried to use a piece of it to cover the write-protect hole on a 3.5" floppy diskette.
