When I first read the note the other day my first thought was that the writer had just put down his bong and stared at his hand for five minutes like he had never seen it before. Then they nab some 21 year old art student. Ding ding ding!
I also like the fact that he was in a band called “Apathy” who’s biggest (and I do use that term very, very loosely) hit was “Conformity.” Like, wow, dude! That’s so deep! And when I saw the picture of him in police custody in a Kurt Cobain T-shirt, people in the other cubicles at work wondered why I was giggling so much.
I just wonder if Bush will give him the same “poor, confused young man” comments he gave J.W. Lindh.
“Death is only at ninety degrees!! But Government is at the four box-points of the compass, 90, 180, 270, and 360 degrees!! 24 hours divides into 360 so Government can control you constantly!! You have been taught wrong your whole lives because they do not want you to know you have been lied to!!!” - DougC
The kid has an ego the size of a small island country. Specifically, he’s got what I call “tortured artist/brilliant mind” syndrome. I’m guessing that’s why he adores Kurt Cobain - he feels a kinship.
IOW, he’s the cleverest of them all, yet no one understands how enlightened & correct he is. He thinks his ideas’re new & fabulous & he wants everyone to agree & tell him so. He wants attention & to be looked at as a brilliant mind.
The bombings were his temper tantrum & his way of showing off. I mean, to me, the whole “plant them in the form of a smiley face” thing screams “Look at me - not only have I gotten everyone’s attention, but I’ve done it in a clever way - a smiley face! How deep is that?”.
Also, he’s a bit of a nut I think many college kids (my peers) figure they have the answers to the world’s problems, yet the world is too stupid to listen up. They don’t, however, start planting pipe bombs 'cause their screws are still tightly in place. This kid’s definitely off.
