InSight Pest control: Worthwhile or pests?

Doorbell rang this afternoon, and there stood a fresh-faced young couple, smiling at me. Asked if they had a petition for me to sign, or were they J Dubs with pamphlets. Neither, as it turned out: they were contacting residents to offer the services of InSight pest control. I’ve never heard of it, though their products all sound nicely organic and safe except for the pests; they will treat the base of the house and the area for another 3 feet, dust away spider webs from the various edges of your house with an oversized Q-tip gizmo, which also counteracts the pheromones to ensure the pests won’t simply move back in. Today, or the next couple of days, they can do it for half the usual price! Told them it sounded like the old schemes where unlucky kids were dropped off in neighborhoods to sell magazines or lightbulbs and expected to live on commission, not salary… seems this newly-wed (they said) couple are also only commission. And are working here, though originally from Idaho and Oregon.

This triggers a SCAM! alert to my mind, though the company is itself legitimate and BBB ratings are acceptable; other reviews are mixed, from ‘Wonderful’ to ‘Ripoff’. Have any Dopers knowledge of/experience with InSight? I do have ants and spiders and such around the place, and might find it useful.

Since this is looking for personal experiences, let’s move it to IMHO.

Moving thread from General Questions to In My Humble Opinion.

I’d call a reputable company directly to get an estimate, if I were you. Several of the major companies will inspect and give you a quote for free. I’ve made it a policy never to do business with anyone who calls me or shows up at my door unsolicited.

A quick Google search shows reviews for this company to be all over the board. Yelp shows about as many 1-star reviews as 5-star. They do have an entry on ripoffreprt.com, but it’s pretty strange as well.

Certainly not enough positive to make me want to do business with an unsolicited door-to-door company. YMMV.

I NEVER do business with anyone going door to door. If I need something done, I find a local company with a local address and local reputation.
