Installing fonts in @!#$%^!! Windows Me.

I just got a new laptop. Much to my chagrin, it’s running Windows Me. I toyed with it, managed to change the settings, so that it looks like a proper operating system rather than some communist pseudo webpage, etc.

Now I’m trying to install the 30 MB of fonts that I’ve collected on my desktop. I burned the fonts from my desktop onto a CD, which I then inserted into the DVD-ROM drive of my notebook.

After dragging and dropping the new font into the “fonts” folder in the control panel, I fired up Wordpad to see if they showed up. They didn’t. I’ve tried every program I can think of so far, and the recently installed fonts aren’t showing up in anything. I can open the ttf files in explorer, but they’re not showing up in any programs at all.

Am I missing something here?

Apparently, I’m not as dumb as I look.

If anybody else is having similar problems, here’s what you do:

Select “Run” from the Start menu.

In the dialog box, type the following:
Attrib +S C:\Windows\Fonts

Click OK.

That should do it. I can now install font files like normal.
