So, I got an Instant Pot for my birthday last month. So far, I really like it. I’d never worked with any kind of pressure cooker before, so it’s entirely new to me.
I’ve done some basic recipes so far - soups, stocks, hardboiled eggs, and I’m ready to move past those. Next up will be yogurt, I think.
Does anyone have an instant pot or another electronic pressure cooker? What do you make regularly in it?
I love my Instant Pot! Haven’t used it as a yogurt incubator or rice cooker (stove works just fine), but all kinds of other things. Chili is a big one–I pressure cook the beans by themselves for about 20 minutes, then add the other ingredients and p.cook on low for about an hour.
It’s really great for carnitas. P.cook for about 2 hours (beats 8-10 hours outside over the king cooker), then turn on “saute” to crisp it up. If it’s a big shoulder I crisp it in stages or do half on the stovetop.
Beef shanks are another regular, to make a sort of osso bucco or paprikash.
Come to think of it, I mostly use it to braise meats/make stews. It’s pretty foolproof. Just about everything I used to do it a crockpot (which, when broken, was the reason I got an Instant Pot) or on the hob for hours, I now pressure cook. I like that you can keep it heated after depressurizing to adjust seasonings, etc.
Just be careful not to overfill. The underside of my white cabinets are still stained a light pink thanks to a small tomato sauce geyser from the valve. :o
Nope - high pressure for 5 or 6 minutes (I like 6 - 5 was not quite fully done in the yolk) 6 min natural release the QR the rest of the way and into an ice bath.
I love mine, too! I have made yogurt in it, and I’ve used the slow cooker function, too. Just finished beef stew I made in the pressure cooker. There are tons of websites with recipes.
I finally made yogurt in it overnight last night and it’s fantastic. I had some for breakfast before draining it for a thicker consistency, and some for lunch after draining it. So tasty.
