Yes, ETLAs are Extended Three Letter Acronyms. Which is to say, they’re four-letter acronyms. I’ve actually seen ETLA used in this sense at the company I work for. I’m sure it was originally a joke, but the people using it now take it seriously.
That aside, I’m fond of recursives like GNU (Gnu’s Not Unix) and WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator). Then there are oddities like INTERCAL (which is said to stand for “Compiler Language With No Pronounceable Acronym”).
