Interesting article about coming out by '70s TV star

Wesley Eure, who starred as Will Marshallon Land of the Lost, is now 58(?! can you believe it?) and came out this week in an interview with AfterElton. (The release of the big budget abomination is the occasion; he and Kathy “Holly” Coleman had cameos in the film but they were cut.)

Anyway, he was one of my first crushes when I was a kid, and an early crush of a lot of other gay guys within a decade of my age probably, especially since he was on Days of Our Lives long after LOTL ended. What’s interesting about the interview though is that it gives more insight than most into why gay celebrities (especially those of his status in the 70s/80s- well known but not A list) remained and remain closeted. He was actually fired for being too openly gay by openly gay producers!

Today he’s semi retired, writes children’s books and does fund raisers, and lives in Palm Springs. He tells some funny stories about adventures as a has-been child star in the article. Recent pic (he’s aged much better than most child stars). And he tells why Season 3 of LOTL was never aired in syndication: the cast had residuals for that one so it made more money to show the Krofts to only show first 2 seasons.

The only names he names are those everyone knows- men who’ve either come out or been outed. Interesting though that he lived with Richard Chamberlain in the '70s.

Anyway, interesting article- here it is.

I remember him as Mike Horton on Days of our Lives. When he was unable to consummate his first relationship with a woman, he worried he might be gay. However, his father’s secretary set him straight (snicker).
