I just had to start a thread for this, mainly because I couldn’t find somewhere else to post it.
My wife Pepper Mill had an interesting dream the other night. She was trying to cross a bridge, and it was filled with creepy people and things. At one point the roadbed was completely encased, like a tunnel, leaving her with no other way to go.
She was moving forward, and suddenly a wall closed down, or crashed down, in front of her. There was writing on it. It read:
I had one last night where I was waiting to get a haircut, but there were like 20 people ahead of me, despite having an appointment. I decided to leave and discovered someone had stolen the case in which I carry my shoes.
That’s delightful. Most dreams don’t really end, because dreamers wake up while stuff is still happening.
The other night, just after I finished reading an absorbing and well-plotted mystery novel, I had a dream with a coherent and satisfying beginning, middle and end. I’m sure the author’s careful attention to high school English rules (exposition, climax, denouement and so forth) were a contributing factor.
I really blew it in last night’s dream. I not only showed up late for an appointment with the head of whatever graduate program I was thinking of applying to, it was in the wrong place and the wrong city, I was dressed too casually and needed a shave, and I had to compete with some stranger for the large pile of loose change I couldn’t leave behind, most of it pennies.
I will never get my PhD and find a job, if this keeps up.
