Interior Decorating Online

I shall be moving into a new pad the first week of July. Said move shall be occasioned by my transferring to University. I know the floor plan for the place (and, surprisingly, somewhere around here I have the load limit for it also as it’s a 2nd floor apartment). I will be keeping all my current furniture and, since I know the dimensions for each and every item, I’d like to do some pre-planning on where the stuff will go. If I can do this online and for free, even better. What would be the best would be online, for free, and I could e-mail the result to my girl-friend for her advice (read, “approval”).

Anyone know of such a site on the 'net?

Decorating? You can’t go wrong with Christopher Lowell! He has a whole TV show and everything!

Or maybe not. Heee.

That show is, um, pretty remarkable.

Well, this one’s kind of interesting; however, it does not permit a saved room to go beyond the one browser session. I need one where I can save ALL the rooms and then send the link to the lass for the 'lowance for the layout.

Christopher Lowell? Sheesh. Reminds me of Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on an off day.

There’s always the low-tech solution I used to use when I was younger and living in tight quarters and needed to rearrange my stuff:

Graph Paper

Decide on your scale, then cut out little pieces that represent your belongings.
On other sheets create the rooms using the same scale.

Rearrange furniture on paper to your hearts content, then move it for real when you decide where it will go.

Kind of hard to email that, hey? Forsooth, the femme I fondly feign as the future frau is a Computer Science major in another metropolis. This needs to be a collaborative effort.

Left something off: Since she’s a CS major, she likes the internet-based things, especially free.

Forty-something view and still nothing posted which matches the criteria?

Now, I know I’m a knob when it comes to the Net; nevertheless, no doubt, someone shall supply the site to save this settler!

just out of curiosity… how big is the place and how much stuff?

In my mind, University = 1 room dorm. I know this isn’t the case.

Are you all out decorating the place, meaning, painting, curtains, etc?

Or are you just trying to decide where to move things? Do you honestly have THAT much stuff? just being nosey is all.

The only stuff I know of that do all this are programs and not actual 'net stuff.

my advice:
If you don’t have a whole lot of heavy items, just move the stuff in. you can always move it around later.
Talking from experience (intern architect) plans on computer never quite give you the feel for what the actual layout is like anyway.

I have worked with countless people on such projects and half the time, everything gets moved around because it wasn’t how the owner ‘envisioned’ it: “oh, on the drawing it looked roomier” or what have you.

One bedroom apartment. The neat stuff is also just outside the apartment: 24 hour fitness center, swimming pool, and hot tub.

You are correct; that is not the case. I’ll be a Junior (in my 40s yet!) and living off-campus. I’ve had enough of “dorm” living (actually, barracks), thank you very much.

The owners must put up new curtains and replace the drapes prior to my move-in.

No problem. I’m trying to decide how the stuff I have will fit into the place I’m getting. In my current place, also a 1 BR, I’m operating on the premise that it’s possible to put 2 BR worth of stuff into a 1 BR apartment comfortably. Sadly, it’s an unworkable theory–I had to sell off the Roman Column lamp and the love seat.

That’s what I feared.

I thought that way, also; however, I now know that once the item of furniture is placed, that’s where it’s staying. I’m not adverse to change, per se; I’m just not quick about it.

Actually, I’m looking for “how it fits.” This way, I can have my crew (a couple of strong dudes I know who are doing this, not for money, but for the sole reason that it’s a road trip–don’t ask).

Honestly, I wanted to sell the stuff off and get new stuff but that plan got nixed.

Sorry I couldn’t think of any alliteration for this posting.

Should read:

well, since you are mainly looking for a fit, then just about any drawing program can help you.

here are some links of trial versions of programs. It should give you a trial long enough to do your stuff. You and she can both download it. You can draw out the stuff then she can modify it.
free stuff number 1

numero dos! (this one has a few different products you can try.

I don’t know how easy these are to use as I haven’t really messed with them.

Autocad can be complex, but for what you want, its very easy to use. All you need to know are a few commands.

Good Luck!

Graph paper. Scanner. E-mail?

Or Graph paper, glue stick, envelope, postage stamp? So much fun to get real mail sometimes. Especially with fun things in it.

Thanks, 'Boon.

& Kitten, too. Now, if I had any artistic skill whatsoever, I’d be tempted to make a pop-up-book to send via snail mail.
