Yes, yet another thread on IE Woes. Recently, IE has developed an annoying problem. One some website (always the same ones), I get a little pop-up box telling me
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs ro close. blah, blah blah… Please tell Microsoft… blah, blah… We have created an error report… blah, blah [send error report] [don’t send]
No matter what I click from there, I get punted to my home page.
This is getting serious. I can’t get my Penny-Arcade cartoons and I might just perish from lack of sarcastic humor.
This is an older pIII 950 with 512k mem - should be sufficiant
I’m running Win98-SE with IE 6.0.2800.1106
I run AdAware and Spybot
I keep Windows updated
I have Norton, but haven’t run it this week (I’ll correct that shortly)
I tend to have good web surfing habits, so I rarely catch things
Any hints or clues as to what this is. If it helps, I can get the exact text of the message. I can reproduce the problem by going to certain websites (Like PA’s comic. Not the front page, the actual comic)
The only thing I’ve done recently was to load BattleField 1942, and my gf loaded The Sims (and all eighty gazillion expansions). I’ve done nothing to IE directly.
I didn’t think that the Penny Arcade cartoon used Flash, but what the hell would I know. I’m downloading a huge mod for BF 1942 right now (2.5 hrs to go). When that’s done, I’ll try your suggestion of uninstalling/reinstalling Flash and what not. Maybe even go for the whole shebang and reload IE itself. Although I don’t remember that being very fun.
Okay, I’m feeling kinda dumb here. I’d like to uninstall/reinstall Flash. But how on earth do I do that. I don’t see it when I bring up ‘Add/Remove Programs’. I can’t find a folder with an uninstall program.
Well, the whole flash thing is moot now. My inept screwing around with stuff has made the whole system unstable. Since I wanted to install a second harddrive to stick my gf’s Sim Crap on, I’ll just format and start over. Much easier than uninstalling everything and junking the registry up.
Okay. My PC was back up and happy. Then I made the mistake of loading flash again. Now I’m back to the same old crap.
I’ll be damned if I reload the PC again. How do I uninstall Macromedia Flash ver7 ? I does not show up under Add/Remove Programs. Macromedia Shockwave does, but not Flash. Odd.
