How do I keep Explorer from remembering items typed into form fields (such as usernames)?
Specific example: When I go to type in my username for my classes online, I click in the field and a scrollbar list of every username I’ve typed into every username field for any site I’ve used on this computer comes up. Similarly, whenever I go to do a search on a search engine, typing in a letter will bring up a scrollbar list of every item I’ve ever searched for that starts with that particular letter.
I don’t want to just re-set (clear-out) the memory of what I’ve entered, I want to keep it from doing this at all. Is this possible?
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks!

Go to tools / Internet Options from the menu bar.
Click on the “Content” tab and you should see a “Personal Information” section with an “Autocomplete” button. Click on this button and you can select which entities will be autocompleted for you. You can also clear any history from here.
This works on IE6, but the other versions should be similar.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, Armilla.
I’ve already cleared the history, all the cookies, and de-selected inline autocomplete, but none of those have seemed to do the trick…Maybe I’m doing something wrong?
Which version of Internet Explorer are you using?
I’m on 5.1 and the procedure is as described by Armilla. You should de-select ‘forms’ in the autocomplete box to resolve the problem you’re having.
Aha! I should have read a little closer. Thanks, Armilla, that did the trick. I was deselecting inline autocomplete from under the advanced tab, but didn’t check the content tab.
That’ll teach me to read posts while trying to work at the same time.

Thanks again!

You can sometimes delete them just by highlighting them and hitting ‘delete’.
But I’m not sure if it’s universally supported.
