I’m running Vista with IE 8.0. I’ll try to explain this as clearly as possible.
A problem has been cropping up recently that I’ve never seen before.
Example: I go to a search engine (for sake of argument, let’s say “Dogpile”) and type in a search item, say “marbles”. I get a list of sites. I click on one. Sometimes I have to click twice. It goes to the site. While I’m browsing the site, suddenly I’m taken back to Dogpile.
Another: I searched for a map on Mapquest yesterday. Today I’m looking for a different map. It gives it to me, then suddenly displays the map I looked for yesterday instead.
Another: My home page is the New York Times. On one occasion, after going to another site, the computer has, for no reason, taken me back to the home page.
WTF is going on here? This happens with no prompting from me, no mouse clicks (Logitech with a thumb “back” button and wheel) or anything else. It’s MOST frustrating, I can tell you, since right now we’re at about dial-up speen at this location, so when you wait five minutes for a map to load and then it disappears completely, you want to go get the shotgun. HELP PLEASE. Thanks.
Does the same thing happen in another browser? Firefox or Opera? If that does happen, then the mouse problem could be the answer. If it doesn’t then it could be the browser or something else.
I disconnected the damn thing completely (which has apparently identified and solved the problem at the same time) and am using the pencil eraser mouse until I can get to an electronics place to buy a new mouse.
Any suggestions for a wireless mouse, or are they more trouble than they are worth?
I use one for my media center, and I’ve been happy with it. It was a no-name brand that was on sale at Fry’s. I’m sure results vary, though. Get one from a place with a good return policy.
