OK, a while back I stumbled across a website that allowed you to choose a pair of webservers that you could preform a tracert between. Not only that, it allowed you to select which backbone the route took. In short you could compare and contrast the exact point that a network was failing, or let you know who’s backbone was more efficient for those two sites.
I obvioulsy forgot the URL when I actually come to a point where it’d be very helpful. So you technogeeks care to refresh my memory?
There was some discussion about it on this page toward the bottom in the section called “TRIANGULATING THE INTERNET”, but the links didn’t work, so it took a little digging to find the link above.
I did find this off of the link that Handy provided.

Jim, I’ve found those links before, and thanks to handy I was able to see them in a second window. Thanks for the effort anyways.
Don’t be so ingrateful, that site provides a reverse tracert from a webserver, which is alot like the OP. You should take your own advice once in while and check the link.
Although I didn’t try every single link therein, it seems to allow you to perform a traceroute from several different servers in several different countries.
Some links even allow you to specify the backbone.
Funny what a little search in Yahoo or Altavista can uncover in 2 mins or less.
Hey dipshit. If you read the post the point is I need a method to compare ping rates and traceroutes between the same two points using various backbones. Find somewhere in my post where I asked for a reverse traceroute?
What good does it do me to trace one route from a MIT server to mine, and then trace from another different site back to mine? Yeah I can see the two different paths but since the path is predetermined but the private peering agreements and NAPs I can’t run the same trace across different backbones. Which if I wasn’t clear is the entire point of the site I’m seeking.
Essentially I need to, for example, run a tracert from my IP to straightdope.com using my ISP’s dynamic routing over its backbone. Then follow up by running a tracert from my IP to straightdope.com using UUNets backbone. The using CAIS’ backbone…etc. This site allowed you to select two sites (neither necessarily your own) and a Tier 1 provider and see the route between the two.
Again read my post, that site does a lot more than provide your own IP. Whether or not it was the one you’re looking for isn’t the point, that poster made a sincere attempt to help and you didn’t even bother checking the whole page out.
Try being less reactionary, defensive, and offensive and you might find more people are filling to help you out. Firing off angry replies doesn’t help anyone.
