Since I will be graduating very soon, I am looking into some internship programs for computer science/mathematics undergraduate.
As ambitious as I am, my targets are some big names like Microsoft, Intel, IBM,…but I guess the bigger the company, the bigger the application pool as well. The process of course will be very competitive. Does anybody know whether these companies have a different scheme to select their interns ? It would be really helpful if someone could give me some insights.
Btw, if you did an intern before (Computer Science, Math majors), would you mind tell me who did you work for. I might want to take a look.
By the time you graduate you should have a distinctive skill set that you should be able to use to distinguish yourself from other applicants. Your goal should be to apply for specific internships at specific companies that are in an industry you are interested in. Also, you should probably remember that most 4 year Computer Science programs are taught in “By Example” system, where the 4 year curriculum is a very light survey of CS topics as well as a couple examples of practical applications with deeper study.
Essentially while a 4 year chemistry program might make you a junior chemist, a 4 year computer science program usually doesn’t make you any kind of computer scientist.
