Interpret this dream using your arcane knowledge

Last night, I had a strange dream. It was very short and simple, and yet I woke up feeling that surely this must be symbolic of something profound and possibly prophetic. The problem is, I lack the wisdom to interpret it, so I need you guys, with your collective knowledge of mythology, alchemy, and religious and occult symbology, to lay it open. (Of course, I know my dream was nothing more than electrical currents zipping around my brain, but work with me here, people.)

The dream: I was standing on a road overlooking a bay or inlet with a beach. There was a wall separating the road from the beach, and when I peeked over the wall, I could see a large eagle standing in the shallow waters. Suddenly, a lioness appeared from the right and attacked the eagle. They fought and the lioness won, devouring the eagle. I backed away from the wall and ran, afraid that the lioness would come after me. End scene.

Now, this page indicates that lions and eagles are alchemical symbols, except my lion was not green and my eagle was not white. This article indicates that the lion and the eagle are two of the leading symbols found in heraldry and also symbolize Red Blood and White Gluten, respectively (a Red Lion symbolizing the mystical Philosopher’s Stone). I know that in Christian tradition, the lion represents St. Mark and the eagle represents St. John. They are also two of the faces of the cherubim that appear in the book of Ezekiel. And in the book of Daniel, Daniel had a vision in which four beasts (including one lion with the wings of an eagle) rose out of the sea.

Okay, well and good, but the lioness ate the eagle in my dream…this is the key to unlocking the mystery of the dream’s import, it seems to me. And it was a lioness (no mane), not a lion, if that matters.

So what could this mean? Have I unlocked the key to creating the Philosopher’s Stone? Do the animals represent warring empires, thus indicating my dream is a prophecy of future conquest? What say you, O arcane and wise ones?

Your winning lottery numbers are 8,7,argghhhhhhhhh…

It means that the British Empire shall soon rise anew, starting with the reconquest of her former colony. Yanks, you’d better get ready to submit to your rightful masters.

The wall represents the boundary of the conscious mind, and the water represents the unconscious mind. The eagle is the soaring spirit of tradition, which tries to separate itself from the earth and rule over it, but can never succeed, because it is always rooted in the unconscious. The lioness, being a land animal, reprsents the hunter as part of the earth.

The meaning is clear. The fell forces of the Patriarchy are about to be defeated by the Earth-Goddess worshippers of the 21st century.

Choose your sides. I know where I stand.

You have a choice to make in your life that you’re putting off. The path you want to choose is the one that leads to security and safety rather than risk.

How’s that?

Never rely on other people’s interpretations of symbols. They don’t mean what they mean to other people, they mean what they mean to you.

The road may be your path. The wall indicates separation. The question is what, and that depends on the significance of the beach and the water to you. Could be anywhere from sand (instability) and water (danger and tears), which would fit, or to an idealization of relaxation if your ideal vacation is the beach.

What do eagles symbolize to you, and why would the Eagle be standing in the shallows? What do lions represent or make you think of or feel like?

It may be as simple as; You are separated from your ideal lifestyle (the beach and water), where you would like to be living free and strong (eagle), but you’re afraid that if you made that break from your current path (the road), you’d be overwhelmed and taken down by unforseen dangers (the lion).

The fact that the feline was female is irrelevant. Put money on the Detroit Lions to knock off the Philadelphia Eagles in the upcoming NFL season’s NFC championship game.

Sekhmet was a warrior goddess in ancient Egypt who was symbolized by the lioness. Not surprising she was ferocious and aggressive but also nurturing and a healer.

The eagle is certainly the most commonly used bird and probably the most commonly used animal in semiotics, but in this particular case I think it stands for Olivia Newton John, who lives in Australia- a country with lots of coastline and, I’m sure, some walls. The problem comes in with why a millennia dead Egyptian warrior goddess has a beef with Olivia Newton John.

What Chimera said. Your dream could not contain any information or symbolism that you didn’t already know. Dreams cannot confer external knowledge, nor can they be prophetic.

My guess is that you saw something happen to somebody else, or think it WILL happen to somebody else, and you are afraid of the same thing happening to you. The wall symbolizes at least some kind of separation or distance from the person. The beach may symbolize a superficially, perhaps deceptively happy setting. The fact that it’s a lioness could symbolize the feminine (perhaps a specific woman, or the idea of commitment to a woman) and the eagle could symbolize freedom.

You know anybody that got married or divorced recently? Are you considering some kind of commitment or move? Any kind of radical change that you have seen not work out for somebody else?

I think what Diogenes is trying to tell you is that there will be 7 years of famine, followed by a brief but major upswing in the career of Suzanne Somers, followed by 7 years of bumper crops- exactly the opposite of what Joseph saw, except Pharaoh is still in a pissy mood so careful with that wine cup.

Even in a dream, I think that’s wildly implausible.

Hmmm…well, while I do agree that one must decipher one’s dreams using one’s own intuitive symbology, I like this answer the best:

Remember, folks, you read it here first.

Pssst… I think the OP was less than serious.

It was about sex.* You’re probably not getting enough.

*C’mon, it had a big pussy in it!

I don’t have any answers, but that sounds like one cool dream!

Best wishes,
hh

Mostly what she said. Generally people are much better at interpreting their own dreams. I’m good at mine and my family’s and friends, but that’s only because I know them and what issues are key in their lives at any given moment.

If a dream tends to “stick with you” for a while (for me anywhere from a day or two to a couple of weeks sometimes) it is probably something your subconscious is trying to tell you. I don’t remember who said it (Freud maybe?) but they stated something to the effect of “dreams are just your psyche taking a dump”. Ugh, really elegant eh?

But yeah, sometimes the dreams you have are just your psyche’s way of making sense of all the stuff going on in your life.

A large pussy appears and devours a cock (obviously the eagle was male). Whether or not this is a good omen for you or a bad one depends almost entirely on your gender.

And shit.

You are at the point in your life where you must make a choice between focusing on practical needs (the lioness) and pursuing your dreams (the eagle). An opportunity for change (the water) is before you if you can overcome the barrier in your path (the wall), and leave the path laid out for you by others (the road).

Are you thinking about taking a well paying job you’re afraid you won’t like?

Stretch out on the couch and tell us all about your resentment for your mother.

Your mother, (the lioness), has devoured and destroyed your dreams of success, (the eagle), leaving you living in fear, but also in safety, behind a barrier that you wish to break through but cannot.

It’s always about your mother. That will be $200 and I’ll see you again next Thursday.

Or it could have been something you ate. Fried zucchini before bed does the same thing to me.

The eagle represents money. The lion represents the NY library. Take back your overdue books.
