I’m not really a newbie, nor am I a seasoned veteran. I first visited straightdope.com in late 1997, and stumbled upon the SDMB a little more than a year ago. After lurking for a while, I registered in April 2000. I have made on-and-off appearances since then, but have been posting much more regularly in the past couple of weeks.
No introductory post would be complete without a description of said poster, so here goes, in bulleted form.

[li]I’m a junior at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in mechanical engineering. I have taken a liking to the energy systems course sequence- I love thermodynamics![/li][li]I’m involved in a number of co-curricular activities:[/li]
[li]FutureTruck: National hybrid vehicle design competition. Goal: convert a sport ute (Chevy Suburban) to a high mileage, low emissions, green machine.[/li][li]Pi Tau Sigma: Mechanical engineering honor society. I tutor for this group, and also serve as the chapter’s webmaster.[/li][li]Tau Beta Pi: A more general, more liberal engineering honor society. Sidenote: TBP formed in 1885 when Phi Beta Kappa decided engineers weren’t worthy of their honors.[/li][/ul]
[li]I love aviation. I’m a student pilot right now, signed off in a Piper Archer, Piper Warrior, and Cessna 172. After my checkride Thursday, though, I will (hopefully) be a fully certificated private pilot![/li]
Now, for the more random, useless information.

[li]My room is an experiment in entropy. Its condition, is in fact, keeping the universe from flying apart.[/li][li]I have a sweet spot for chocolate-coated pecans.[/li][li]I tend to stay in GQ, IMHO, and MPSIMS. If you want to drag me into GD or the Pit, you’ll have to get my attention first.[/li][li]I have a class in about 7 hours, so I should probably try to get some sleep.[/li][/ul]
That said, I turn this thread over to the rest of you, for your interrogatory pleasure.
