Inventions of the Near Future!

What kind of inventions would you like to see in the near future? I’m not talking about anti-gravity packs or instant teleportation devices, I want to know what you want to see that doesn’t seem to far off.

What I’d like to see is programmable t-shirts. Like the hypercolor craze of ten years ago, but t-shirts that change according to a microchip in it. I’d get one that flashed a phrase I’d programmed into it every ten seconds or so. Or pictures.

Also, I’d like to see Insta-cold beer. Beer that drops to ice-cold temperature just by cracking the tab.

Last but not least, I’d like to see dolls that mimic your movements. You know, you put these sensors on all your major joints, and then you dance around and see a little doll make all the same movements you are. Great fun in my book.

So what else do you people want to see. (Pssst! Inventors, look into this thread.)

I’d like to see those bastards at the car companies finally perfect a strong and reliable fuel cell for cars.

In all seriousness, I would like to see advances in gravity theories that lead to gravity-manipulation devices.

Finally, I really look forward to the completion of Internet2.

I’m looking forward to nano-assembled computers. The current prediction is that they’re ten years away, and millions of times more powerful than today’s computers.

Spoofe, Ford debuts a fuel-cell powered vehicle in 2004. Done and done.

I was going to say a fuel cell powered car too, but what good is the fuel cell if you don’t have a roof-mounted solar powered electrolysis machine making hydrogen for you all day long?

Auto-pilots for cars. I’ve seem some prototype highways on the Discovery channel where you can sit back and let your car drive for certain stretches of straight prototype highways. This would be much welcomed by every comuter I know.

A flat tv screen that you can hang on the wall like a picture , preferably 3D.

casdave: Have you been missing all those Philipps commercials? Flat screen TV’s have been out awhile, just real expensive till now.

A recent issue of Wired told me I can look forward to a laser razor.

Don’t know what it would look like, but the idea is you have a special gel you coat the skin to be shaved with, then go over the skin with the razor, which shaves deep but painlessly. Lasts for three weeks.

As one who shaves his head, I’m eager for this one to become a reality.

Sliced bread!!!

I’m STILL waiting for my flying car!!!

Clothes with built in compressor pumps and little freon tubes. Ohhh yeah.

This is all well and good, but when do I get my replicator?

Nope not any, guess they will get them to us when you Americans get bored with them.

Dude, I wouldn’t trust those things. What if the computer malfunctions and ::gulp:: takes you through a McDonald’s drive-thru?!?

They’re called “intestines”. You put food in 'em, and several hours later you get stinky-poo.

Some stuff which I think would be nice:

Wearable computer that doesn’t look dorky
Electronic document filing system that can replace my filing cabinets
Medical monitoring device implanted or injected permanently into the body
Cheap access to space (cheap enough to do tourist flights)
Cheap cell phone and wireless broadband network that works in any country
Artificial heart and other organs that are better than the real thing
Computers that are easy to use, powerful and don’t crash
Airport/airline management system that actually works

Networking of home electronics. I have digital cable, and I’d love to be able to program it and my VCR using my computer. It’d also be nice if the stereo and the computer would talk together. I realize most of this is possible, but why isn’t it built in to all these devices?

I heard recently that they’ve made some advances in Organic LED’s that should improve tiny little computer displays. The ones that have been around for a while are not too good, and way too expensive. I’d love to have a notebook computer without an LCD screen, just a pair of cybersunglasses.

Speaking to you as an employee of that fine organization that is PHILIPS…
You can get all of the info on your Flat TV at…
http://www.PHILIPSUSA.COM
Click on ‘Television’, Then ‘Flat TV’. These things are cool, trust me, I installed one today.
But drop your ‘when the Americans get done with it’ attitude. Philips is a European company, and alot of times us USA associates (We used to be Magnavox)don’t get the straight dope on new stuff till long after the fact.

Alcohol that doesn’t have all the calories or cause hangovers!
