IPad/IOS8 Question

I have a minor annoyance ever since updating my iPad to IOS8. When I tap the Bookmarks icon my bookmarked list of URLs appears, but the list won’t go away until I tap the icon again.

Can anyone direct me to a fix/setting that will relieve this frustration?

That’s one of the less annoying things I’ve encountered with IOS8. For me, I want the tabs, stop/reload, new tab, etc. bar to stay visible, and the overall performance is awful.
