I have perfect pitch, or at least used to. Possibly it’s drifted a bit over the years since I no longer play an instrument.
The audio version of “Heart and Soul” being played in the commercial appears to be in an entirely different key than is shown visually, and different by a couple notes at least? I googled this and the only possibly relevant comment is a claim on youtube that at 18 seconds in, one of the players hits a note that is an octave off from what the fingers are shown doing.
Feedback from any Dopers with trained ears w/be appreciated … Do mine deceive me?
They likely shot the fingers and piano app separately. Generally, they composite something onto the screen in post-production, as filming it live wouldn’t look great.
Most companies showing off something on a screen will do this.
But why would the visual and audio key not be identical? It’s not as if a 4-handed piano version of “Heart and Soul” (which many a non-pianist can successfully pluck out) would be difficult to record so as to “match” the visual?
Or maybe whoever shot the commercial doesn’t know any better. If you have a shot of fingers, a composite graphic of a piano, and a separate audio track for the piano, you could easily mistake exactly where to put what. Especially if a different team does the piano graphic, the fingers overlay, and the audio.
The piano in the ad is from Garageband. On the left side just above the keys are left and right arrows that you use to select the octave you want. The first part is at 0 on the octave selector and the mini is at +1 on the octave selector.
