Those of you with wi-fi-only iPads, do you regret not getting the 3G model? Do you find yourself in situations where you really would like it?
Those of you with 3G models, do you really need it, or could you get by with wi-fi only?

I could probably get by with wi-fi only. I bought the 3G for vacations, but we don’t really go on that manta, and ATT doesn’t cover where I live!
However, when I do sign up for a month of service, and my husband is driving, I love getting online!
I’m thinking I could get by with just wi-fi too, but I’m curious to see what others feel now that they’ve had them awhile.
I don’t have one, but I’m considering getting one, and I’d definitely go for the 3G. I use my iPhone all the time on vacation while driving and all that - I’d absolutely want to use the iPad for the same thing.
They were brilliant to come up with the one-month-at-a-time 3G service as well. I’d never get it if I had to sign a year (or longer) contract because unless I’m traveling, I pretty much can live with wi-fi so it’d be a waste of money.
Question: if you’re not in 3G territory, will it pick up Edge?
Yes, it will pick up Edge - but the data transmission is slow, so you’ll want to seek out a wifi spot if you can.
I love my 3G iPad, even though most of the time I’m using it at home where I have wifi. It’s great not being limited to wifi hotspots, especially when you’re traveling someplace unfamiliar.
Cant speak for the Ipad but did regret getting an Ipod Touch rather than an Iphone for that reason.
I have a Mifi device that I use with my Wifi iPad when we’re out and about. Based on my usage, it is far far cheaper than the 3G deal.
I’ve not regretted going with the Wifi model.
In addition isn’t the 3G the only one with GPS? That could make a difference depending on what apps you use.
GPS is definitely a consideration. I think I’ll spring for the extra $130 and get the 3G model.
I have a 32GB wifi-only model. I like it fine.
My primary place of usage thus far is on the couch at home and on campus. Wireless networks there. I have gone to a few meetings at restaurants and virtually every one had a wifi spot, so no problem.
I have two MacBooks, a Hackintosh netbook, and an iPhone, so I think I’m covered. No need to get 3G for me.
I have the 3G model as does my husband although he hasn’t put a data plan on his yet. He primarily uses his at home and work - both of which have wireless networks he can connect to while I use mine during my commute when 3G allows me to read the dope and check email. This morning it allowed me to bill for an hour of my commute as I answered several insane emails during my ride in.
We always take mine with me when we go out, and the convenience of being able to look up products before we buy or find an alternate store when our first choice doesn’t have what we’re looking for has already saved us time and gas.
Hmm, based on this I think the 3G upgrade has already paid for itself.
