I am not naturally drawn to the iPad. It would be an awkward way to surf the internet here. Further, my internet is slow here, spoiling the idea of YouTube or internet games. But the other day a student had one in class and I handled a ‘working’ version (as opposed to a store version). The guy had it loaded with games. I mucked around with some first-person shooter involving zombies.
Pretty cool as a gaming platform. I can take in on the plane and it ought to work for a couple of hours.
So presume I got an iPad this coming summer. I would be in the US for a few weeks (getting married and all) and could raid the Ap Store (right?) for a couple of dozen games. Then I would bring it here and play offline.
So which iPad do I need for this sort of gaming use?
I have the 64GB non-3G version. They are all identical in regards to performance so it’s entirely up to you to determine your storage needs. I way overbought when I got this though as I just don’t need that much storage on this device. My wife and I love the thing though and rarely use our PC for anything more than a media server at home any more.
Bottom line: How much storage do you want? That’s the only consideration. Nothing more.
Well, if you’re not going to use it for connecting to the internet, go for the Wi-Fi version rather than the 3G.
As **Cubsfan **has noted, they all have the same performance, the only difference is in storage. I have the bottom end 16GB WiFi model and I have about ten different games on it, plus a couple of feature length movies, the latest season of Futurama, and a good selection of music and ebooks.
The wi-fi only version does not contain GPS. If GPS is important to you, I’d get the 32 gb 3G version. If you’re just game playing, the 16gb might be enough for you, but my guess is that once you have the iPad you’ll find you want to use it for an increasing number of things.
I’ve got the 64GB 3G version, and it’s worth it for me. I used the iPad to record meetings, to hold a bunch of my technical documents in PDF form so I can review them in comfort, and as a game platform. I also read magazines online using the Zinio app, and I browse the web. I think I’ve currently got 28GB free.
