Just downloaded 3.0 to my first gen iPhone.
So far, the best new feature is the iPhone Search. That is awesomeness!

Landscape keyboard is nice but I’m so used to the portrait keyboard it feels like a bit of a stretch.
Cut/Copy & Paste is a bit tricky using my thumbs (I’m a two thumb typer on my iPhone) and I’m finding it is easier using index fingers.
Can’t wait to upgrade the iPhone itself to 3GS!
Mine’s updating the phone right now. Lots of features to look forward to. I think the GPS updates are going to be the big ones for me though I’ll have to wait for the apps to come out. It sounds like Tomtom has it ready to go.
Any word on TomTom’s price?
Downloading as I type. Like HKF, the GPS is going to be the big plus for me. But we shall see.
Is anybody else having installation problems? I downloaded the update in iTunes OK, but when I try to install it on my iPhone, it extracts the software and tries to contact the verification server, but returns the message “The verification server is temporarily unavailable. Please reconnect or try again later.”
Could the servers be too busy because of the volume of people updating?
That’d be my guess cochrane. Since this is the release date, I an imagine it’s getting slammed pretty good.
I work for ATT Mobility. I’m considering spending Friday rolled up in a ball under my desk whimpering. The only thing that could be worse would be having to be in a store Friday.
I think it’ll be a loooooooooooooooooong day.
Yup - I’m getting the same message. I assumed it was because I wasn’t doing it on my authorized computer. Nevermind - it just went through. Woohoo!
Oh the humanity
I was up till about 3 am this morning , some people had mentioned that the 3.0 software might have been available after 12 pst, as we can see with the servers getting slammed and whatnot, that may have been a good idea.
3.0 finally released after about 1:11 est for me , everything went hunkydory until itunes came back with an error message saying that the iphone could not be backed up to the hard drive, google and apple were not very helpful on that score.
After finally trying everything I could think of for the moment, I decided to nuke and pave. Seems even that had to be authorised by itunes for some reason , and it took about twenty minutes for it to finally go ahead, right now I am just syncing music, so far every other app that I had on the phone synced easily enough , just trying to figure out what I may have forgotten.
One thing that annoyed me among other things, was that my notes are gone. This was a native iphone app and why it does not sync is a mystery to me at the moment.
From what I understand , bluetooth file transfer is not supported by this upgrade and just waiting to see if that is indeed the case.

I’m expecting it to be pricey. There’s a clip somewhere of the demo. It includes a kind of docking station which mounts to your windshield like a standard GPS does. Apparently it has other features too but it didn’t specify them.
Took me a long time to get authenticated, still playing around with it. My carrier has upgrades too but the server was too busy; guess I’ll find out about them later.
Took care of my upgrade at 11:10 MDT. Worked great, updated fast.
One minor problem: I crashed the Voice Memos App, and now my wall paper is the giant microphone. I can’t get it back to my old wall paper.
Small thing. Otherwise, seems to be great.
By the way, my new favorite App is Word Play! I got it free when it was released, but I think it costs $.99 now. It’s Boggle online. Way fun.
I finally installed the update. I bought a stereo bluetooth headset about a month ago, anticipating that stereo bluetooth support would be included in the update. It synced effortlessly and gives full stereo sound. It’s also a full-featured phone earpiece. It switches seamlessly between phone calls and music from the iPod. The Bluetooth support was worth waiting for.
Do you know if this is hardware dependent, i.e. only available in 3G or the upcoming 3GS? Or will this also work with a first gen iPhone with the 3.0 software upgrade?

According to this article, yeah, it’s 3G only. It won’t work with the original iPhone.
You could always try an external Bluetooth adapter similar to this one. It’s supposed to work well with the iPhone.
I believe the dock is a peripheral that you have to buy separately. I’m just curious about the app price. I’m going to predict $25.
Thanks. I’m getting the 3GS tomorrow morning if I can get my hands on one at the store!
You can get the iPod to play through the headset? The manual says that you need a 3G S for that. What did you do to get it to work?
if your talking about Bluetooth stereo in the iPod app on the iPhone, I can personally tell you that it works , the very first thing I checked actually and I am on a 3g

Does it have to be a stereo headset? I’m not allowed to have headphones in both ears when driving, but would like to be able to play podcasts into my existing one-ear Bluetooth headset.
That I dont know , all I can say is to check the older iphone posts regarding the matter , if I remember correctly it had something to do with different channels on the jawbone bluetooth ear pieces. Other than that , look into whats happening with bluetooth equiped car stereos or adapters for fm broadcasting, I know the ipod has one.
