My 1 1/2 year old ipod mini has a scratchy quality to the sound that is evidently caused by a rigid connector deforming pins and causing a bad connection. Does anyone know if this is worth getting repaired, and where such a reasonably priced repair can be obtained? Apple quotes a price that is more than a new ipod costs, so that is a joke. Any advice, or did apple just rip me off with a poor quality product?
I’d try googling ipod repair companies. The prices vary. My 18 month-old 20 gig ipod had a hard drive failure, and it was the same deal, the repair was as much as a new ipod. As a result, I’m pretty reluctant to get another Apple product. I’m looking into the Creative Zen Ultra but am still doing research.
The repair companies will buy your busted ipod. You won’t get much, but it’s something.
I don’t understand why this would convince you to avoid Apple products, as many mass manufactured electronic products are too expensive to repair compared with replacing them. It’s not like Apple is unique in that regard. Try pricing a repair on that Creative product.

I’ve had one of these for about six months and I love it. Once in a while it will lock up, but hitting the reset button clears it right up. It’s got a simple interface and is very easy to use.

I guess I’m bitter that 6 months out of warranty a $300 item suffers a major failure and the only solution is $260 for the repair. It just doesn’t make me want to give Apple another 300 bones :(.
