Ipod Touch says "burn" under the clock--why?

I have a 1st gen ipod touch*.

I don’t know when this started, but I just noticed that when I wake it from sleep, on the “slide to unlock” screen, it says, in small letters, “burn” right under the clock at the top of the screen.

Any idea why?

*Donations welcome.

The 1st generation of ipod touch were a lot less subtle at implanting violent subliminal urges than the later models.

Mine does not have that. Does it say it in place of the date?

Wouldn’t that imply Armageddon has arrived?

If the 1G’s OS allows screenshots (home+power buttons), try and see if the word appears on the screenshot, that will tell you if it’s meant to be there.

iburning your clock.

Well, I know if you’re playing music and wake it from sleep, the name of the song is under the clock. But I doubt you’ve been playing a song named “burn” for all this time.

The word has just-as-mysteriously disappeared as of this morning.

Believe it or not, I think I have never listened to music on this device. I know there are some tracks on there though so I’ll check to see if there’s one called “burn.”

There is in fact a track “Burn” by The Cure. I guess that must be what was happening. But why it has disappeared, I do not know–much less how it came to be played in the first place.

I mean, it could conceivably have been playing ever since I got the thing. But then–why is it gone now?

In the best SDMB spirit I conclude: It’s haunted.
