Are the U.S. troops in Iraq still looking for many of Saddam’s cronies, immortalised in the “most wanted” playing cards and if so are the missing Iraqis leading the insurgency? Obviously Saddam and his sons are dead but what about the others?
I was in D.C. a few weeks ago, and one of the memorabilia merchants outside the Lincoln Monument had all the cards posted on the outside of his store. I would say that 70% of the cards had “Gotcha!” written on them. The rest, I assume, are still at large.
Thanks for the info tofergregg.
Here’s a list.
I have a pack of those cards sent to me by an American serviceman. Are they worth anything?
The government made the artwork freely available during the invasion. There are lots and lots of copies out there. In Baghdad, you could buy the deck in the green zone and I one time saw copies of the deck for sale at a Hecht’s department store in DC, oddly enough.
Ah, I remember buying a pack on Ebay while drunk one night ages ago. I was in a bit of a nostalgic mist (for some strange reason) and also picked up two Iraqi notes (one of which I think was fake). I also had a crappy souvenir from a British soldier who served for a while in Iraq in the boot of my car till it was scrapped for some other, random reason.
