I don’t know anything about direct deposit. I’ve never had a job that offered direct deposit.
The IRS is supposed to be transmitting my tax refund via direct deposit. Since the two weeks have elapsed in which they should have send it, I checked out their website and it says that they transmitted it on Friday. There’s nothing in my bank account, though!
Is this normal? Does direct deposit take a few days to “go through” like a check, or is something amiss if it hasn’t shown up yet?
We had the same problem – the website instructed me to wait an extra week after the supposed deposit date and then call the IRS. I called, and they asked us to call the bank and see if a deposit attempt had been made. If an attempt WAS made and couldn’t go through, they have to issue a paper check through the mail. If no attempt was made, then they have to put a tracer on it and it takes six weeks. In our case, our checking account somehow got flagged as a savings instead, and so the bank refused the deposit attempt. IRS sent a paper check about a week later.
It seems like that happened to quite a few people this year for some reason. I hope you get your money soon!
