My parents bought one of those bunk bed sets that comes apart into twin beds when my sister had outgrown her cot, she was about 2 and I was 3 and a half.
The only problem they had was that every night they would find her in my bed, so they pushed the twin beds together and for about 12 months we had a double bed to share, before I demanded bunks, because I was going to “big school”.
There were no smashed heads or black eyes resulting from either arrangement of the beds, so I guess we were old enough.
This is exactly what happened with my daughter. She was not climbing out or otherwise unhappy with her crib, but we thought it was “time” to move her to a toddler bed so we did (she was about 2 and a half at the time). She ended up in our room every 15-30 minutes all night long and awake at 4:30 in the morning, for nights in a row. Desperate to get some sleep, we put her back in her crib, where she promptly slept through the night once again.
She is now 4 and is still in her crib. She has never even attempted to climb out and finds it very comforting (she loves enclosed, smaller spaces, maybe I carried her in the sling too much as a newborn? ). I expect someday soon she will ask for a “big girl bed” and then we’ll get her one.
So I second those who say to go with what is best for the child. Some kids are ready to leave the crib at 15 months and others might be happy in a crib for years to come…the best way to know is to take your cues from your child.
