Is anyone else not impressed with Andrew Luck?

Yes. And I’m glad you bumped it, because I have a bet to pay off that I had totally forgotten about. :o

Jackknifed, check your PMs.

While I’m sorry he’ll be performing for the soulless franchise he will be, he’s going to be a fun player to watch over his career. Very smart kid, more than sufficient physical tools to take a decent team all the way.

In particular, it will be interesting to see the Colts build one type of more traditional offense while the rest of the NFL veers to the option read with QBs who want to run the ball as an integral part of the game plan.

Well, this is an embarrassing resurrection of a thread! I’m glad none of my local buddies is on the SDMB, since I’m known as pretty good prognosticator of athletic talent. In any case, it’s time for me to pay the piper.

You may have been wrong about Manning, but you were totally right about the Colts (and not incidentally, Luck). Two out of three ain’t bad. Besides, you won the bet!

I had completely forgot about this thread until it popped up in a search result for something else. Jackknifed Juggernaut and I made a wager (as did JJ and RNATB) about how good Andrew Luck would be in the NFL.

Here’s what the wager was:

“But, again to compromise, we look at December 31, 2015. If he’s in the top half of NFL quarterbacks by then, I win. That will be his third year (he’ll come out this year I think), and should be enough time to establish himself. With the prior caveats (injuries, etc.) I’m up for that. I think we can figure out the details closer to the time to deal with the situation also. If he hasn’t had the chance to prove himself either way, we can always move it back another year.”

And the winner gets: “A $40 bottle of the spirit of choice of the winner works for me.”

I don’t think this one is much in contention. Although he struggled for a bit in his career, mostly thanks to injuries, he’s easily been in the top half of NFL QB’s for a great majority of his still young career. And there is little to no chance that anyone would consider him a bust.

Currently, he’s Pro Football Focus’ #2 rated QB. He’s currently #10 in passer rating, #6 in yards per game, he’s and he’s doing it behind a horrible offensive line (he leads the league in number of times sacked with 36). He’s also apparently in the running for MVP according to NFL.com.

I’d certainly call it win for me, but I want to make sure.

And if it is, Teelings Irish Whiskey would be nice. If that’s too expensive in your neck of the woods, Jameson’s Black, regular Jameson’s, or even Kilbeggan would work too.

And at this point, the Washington Professional Football team would sure like to have those 3 first round picks back.
