I just saw it about an hour ago. I really enjoyed for what it was. An action thriller with plot holes. I’m lucky in that I’m not one of those people who find glee or let it ruin the move when finding continuity mistakes, etc.
I’m going to see it because Simon Pegg is in it. I find Tom Cruise mildly annoying, but not so much that I’d alter my behavior for him.
I say we start calling it a Phillip Seymour Hoffman movie and see it because of that. (I’m not really into action movies anyway, but that might help)
Same with Top Gun, I think of it as a Val Kilmer movie, he was hotter than Tom anyway, Rainman I’ve always thought of as a Dustin Hoffman movie that happened to have Tom in it.
Perhaps if you were to read the portion of what I said that’s not included in the portion you quoted, it might not sound quite as snide as you have suggested. Not all of Tom Cruise’s movies are predictable. But Tom Cruise is predictable in them. Sometimes the story or the other actors, maybe even the director, will take away some of the predictability. Note that I did mention a few of his movies that I would rate in the 3 or 4 star range.
And as far as I can recall I have yet to see a Rob Schneider movie. Nor Pauly Shore. Nor PeeWee Herman. And just some clips of Ron Jeremy.
I’m planning on seeing it, because I think it’ll entertain me.
The thing that’s disappointed me about the M.I. movies is not Tom Cruise, but that there is a focus whatsoever on one person… I seem to remember in the TV show that there was an MI team… Hmm…
No way, I will wait for it to be broadcast on tv in about four years and maybe even then I will probably swop channels halw way through. The second on was sooo bad and Tom Cruise in the war of the Worlds was an insult to the movie. He seems to be making really bad movies lately.
Seeing as how I fell asleep in the theatre of the first one, I have no interest in seeing this one.
No idea if and when I’ll see this, but when i do I’ll be rooting for Hoffman’s character. That’s what I’ve been doing since I saw the first preview.
As KidScruffy pointed out, wasn’t Mission: Impossible about a teami? Wasn’t 90% of the thrill about seeing this convoluted mission unfold, and seeing how every member’s role contributed into pulling off this intricate, complex solution? Not seeing some grandstanding solo dude with high-tech gagetry wank off amid explosions and moustache-twirling villians. Hell, that’s what James Bond is for. . .
Ah yes, but there’s no “team” in Tom Cruise (all jokes aside)
No. I have a policy of never seeing movies with more than one colon in the title.
Dont do it! we can’t let him get away with this!
Hell no! I loathe Tom Cruise, and have no desire to support him financially, even though my little $9 at the theatre isn’t going to amount to much. If I decide to watch it, it will be despite the fact that he’s in it, and it will be on cable and I won’t have to pay extra to watch it.
Nope, ever since the SP Scientology debacle, i’m not seeing a Cruise movie, the only way i’ll watch MI-III is if it’s free on standard cable, or if i have a free rental coupon
For those to whom it matters, early reviews I’ve read have been quite positive, and they say that they finally got it right and focused on the team rather than Tom as a one-man demolition crew.
funny how so many of you waited until the South Park debate to start boycotting him. I started boycotting him after that Oprah couch jumping thing - not because he was an idiot for doing it, but because then I had to spend the summer seeing really lame couch jokes.
I don’t get the boycotting.
My wife and I are intending to go. We like J.J. Abrams and the reviews have been good.
Not to mention one in the lead role…
:::: Mr. Rilch was an electrician on that. We went to the premiere and thought it was awesome. Well, he thought it was awesome all along. Why don’t you want to see it?
I have seen neither the films nor the TV show, but from what I’ve heard, mind you, in the first movie:
They kill off all the original characters, making one of the original heros the BAD GUY
That and I don’t think Cruise’s character was even in the original series. Was he?
I am going to see it.
I may go see it; there’s not much else in the theaters right now that I’m interested in, and I don’t really see the point in boycotting Tom Cruise.
And, notwithstanding his personal freakouts (which I, for one, find extremely entertaining), he’s good at these badass-thriller movies. Sure, he probably does them on autopilot, but I don’t much care; his autopilot is really good at it.
