Unfortunately, this is very true. I live in Kentucky, and it’s frustratingly red. Trump is very popular here, and I have no reason to believe that that will change any time.
Because he does things for them. Gets them pork. Has lots of power. Votes the way they think he should.
If you look at national polls, “Congress” has very low approval numbers. The attitude is always “Throw the bums out, except my guy. My guy is great - keep him in there forever!”
Living in Illinois, it is unfathomable how much power the speaker of the Illinois House has - of course, he’s also the head of the Illinois Democratic Party. Mike Madigan does to Illinois what McConnell has done to the nation, only worse. Unfortunately, only his district can vote him out of office; the rest of us have to suffer.
