Is anyone substribed to Helvetica Chimica Acta. or can the get a reference from 1980?

Hi!

I’m doing a literature search on an organic sythesis, and I found a reference that I’d like to see, but I can’t seem to find the actual journal article. The journal was written in German, and was published in 1980 - I found a short abstract on SciFinder, but I can’t find an online article, and my library only has issues from 1998

This is the complete reference:

A simple synthesis of allenecarboxylates by the Wittig reaction. Lang, Robert W.; Hansen, Hans Juergen. Inst. Org. Chem., Univ. Perolles, Fribours, Switz. Helv. Chim. Acta (1980), 63(2), 438-55

If there is some way the article could be forwarded to me, that would be great. Or, better yet, if someone finds it for me, with a bit of email correspondence, I can hopefully get the information I want regarding product yields without having to learn German

I’d like this in the next few days (by the end of the weekend), so any help would be really appreciated!
Note to Mods: I put this in GQ due to the high volume of readers, and the type of subject matter…feel free to move if you feel this forum is inappropriate.

I have online access through my school but it looks like that only goes back to 1998. The paper volumes are in storage here- so it seems I can’t be of any help. Sorry. I tried, though.

Can your library order a copy of the article for you? Alternatively, I have ordered copies of such things from ISI in the past. Fairly expensive though.

In my experience that’s what libraries are for.

My university library has hard copies from 1918 forward - electronic access is available only for 1998-2002.

Does your library have interlibrary loan? Try that first, as they may be able to get it a lot quicker - anything that came from me would have to go snail mail and that’s going to take some time.

I forgot, if you just need information from the article, e-mail me at lcarscad @ utk.edu.
Today is going to be incredibly busy - I really won’t have a chance to find the article or do anything with it until later in the afternoon or tomorrow at the earliest.

I only need a couple of yield numbers, and perhaps a synthesis outline - its usually just a paragraph or so in the Methods section. I never even thought of the inter-library loan…I tend to rely on the online library catalogue (which is really good) and forget that the building actually exists! I suppose I could try that, but I think it’s something of a long delay before I can get it. I’ll talk to the library if I have time today, but I might email you., Lsura as well. My understanding is that the article is written in German, but hopefully it’ll be easy enough to find.

I have a professor who might be able to give me the proper german name for the compound I’m interested in, which might make the search a little easier once the article is obtained. As I said, it’s not a total rush- just by this weekend. I’ll see what I can do today, and then email you based on what happens!

Thanks a lot!
