Except he DID work with them, and was deserted by his own.
And it keeps working towards the extreme overestimation/underestimation dynamic. The generous most interpretation is that this is a briar-patch strategy of casting Ocasio as being so feared by the Right that it will lead the Democrats to acclaim her (because in their view that will bring the Left down). The Occam’s Razor interpretation though is that she’s simply a boogeywoman they’ve latched on to to scare the base.
It went beyond Obama. They had plans to obstruct Clinton for four years if she won.
Republicans are traitors to our country (queue the pedant citing the constitutional definition of traitor). They are working to undermine the country at almost every turn and they are being remarkably upfront about it because they hold the reigns of power and no one can stop them.
There is a big fork in the road coming in a few days. One path leads to doom.
In other countries, elections are contested like this:
Party A: We should have policies of A, B and C, because it would be best for the country
Party B: No, we should have policies of D, E and F, because THESE would be best for the country.
The US seems to be:
Party A: We should have policies of A, B and C, because it would be best for the country
Party B: Government is bad, and we should eliminate it. Also, party A are evil socialists, and we promise to fight everything they do, even if it harms the country.
In that case, the Democrats did not behave in bad faith. Bush was sabotaged by his own party. As usual, the problem here is not a “both sides” problem, but a Republican/conservative problem.
Sometimes he is. There’s zero chance McConnell’s GOP was going to help Obama. We’ve got a national crises and the GOP still refuses to work with the Dems to give the country any sort of release. You think they were going to help a Dem president? A black one?
C’mon, let’s not pretend like destructive politics is unique to America. Have you been paying attention to what’s happening in Britain the last few years?
Obama did try to push. Remember the infamous “beer summit” at the White House? Or when he offered incentives to state governors who were hedging on the ACA even when the polls in their states showed their constituents supported the expansion. Obama tried to use televised addresses to inform the public directly his plans and call on them to make the demands to their local officials to join in. When he got heckled at events from immigration activists he always answered that he’s on their side and the lack of will is not from the executive branch. That’s why after calling on Congress to get a move on with the DACA kids and the total inertia, Obama used his executive order authority to give those kids short term protection and support with the long term goal being it bought them time for the politicians to get their act together. They didn’t.
