Is Benzodent supposed to be this hard to get out of the tube?

My new partial denture plate is causing some sore spots in my mouth (I have an appointment next week to have it adjusted) and in the meantime I bought a tube of something called “Benzodent” which is a benzocaine paste for sore spots caused by dentures and braces. It was a lot cheaper than the other benzocaine products that I have more experience with, so I got it.

Anyway, it takes me using all the strength I have to squeeze a little bit out of the tube. It is so solid that I can’t apply it directly to my gums (it stays on my finger) so I put it on the denture plate in the spots where it hurts and put it in.

It seems to me that it can’t be supposed to be this way. Maybe the tube I got is old and has dried up? Does anyone have any experience with this product? Is it always like this? Should I take it back (assuming I can find the receipt)?
